Thank you for the texts and calls the past few days-we are 100% safe and had very little damage from hurricane Helene, but less then 2 hours away from us there is complete devastation. It is so sad and my heart aches with each story I hear. As rescue efforts continue, I’m amazed by the generosity I see in our community raising money, collecting donations, air lifting and trucking in supplies-this community has so much heart. I plan to take Emily to volunteer at one of the many local donation sites so she can be a part of it and let that open her eyes to others in need.
That being said, there’s so much that is needed as these rescue efforts continue. The needs of things we wouldn’t even think of (chewable Benadryl for rescuers as bees are everywhere after the flooding & destruction, chain saw blades, tarps, starlink for cell service-just so many things).
A member of our church works for an amazing company that decided to match all of our donations (up to $15k) that go directly to hurricane relief efforts.
