Violets are my favorite wildflower this time of year.

Picking violets and smelling their powdery perfume on my fingertips is my moment of Zen after a long winter. I make syrup and sugar, brew tea. Anything I can do to preserve and extend this sweet season.

Violets are also connected to grief, symbolizing emotional healing and providing comfort for sorrow. 🌸💜

Spring ephemerals are finally popping up in Northern Michigan, including Hepatica!

Hepatica’s leaves have three teardrop-shaped lobes, and its flowers range from white to light pink or purple. It can be easy to miss, as it's one of spring's earliest bloomers, so keep an eye out this week! They'll be gone in the blink of an eye.

Fun fact: Hepatica actually fertilizes itself, so it doesn't have to wait for warm-weather pollinators. 🐝
