With 60 species worldwide the water lily is a wonder. Individual blooms last about 4 days before closing and sinking beneath the surface to decompose. With it’s symbiotic architecture it shades the water reducing excessive algae growth and provides safe shelter for aquatic wildlife. In Buddhism it symbolizes enlightenment and rebirth because the clean flowers emerge from dark and murky mud or water. Tomorrow we shall all emerge from this heavy rain, hopefully, enlightened as is the water lily. *please tap photo to get the full experience of this beauty

One of my favorite things…flowers. A trip to Fennville & its poppy field is a must for anyone who loves flowers. I just thought I had to see it once, but now am drawn to it annually. It’s 4 acres of pink, red and purple flowers, waving in a gentle breeze, seem to flow endlessly into the horizon. No image can do it justice. So for now, like my photo, imagine endless seas of red billowing poppies and bright blue skies.

It’s been four trips to the Meijer Gardens before mid July to see the works of Dale Chihuly and with every trip I’m yet even more enthralled. On this day the gray skies added more depth and deepened the water color in my images. Colors really pop on a gray day! Don’t be afraid of clouds or gray skies. Embrace them, for without them everyday would just be another day. For those of you who haven’t been this is a view of the 5 story tropical conservancy where in March-April the butterflies soar freely. Outside gardens complimented by the colorful world of Dale Chihuly. Tap photo to enjoy the big picture

I round out this week with another smoky sky shot over Traverse City. It all sees like a dream now that it’s gone. It really made for interesting photos though. Enjoy the blue skies today. I’m going kayaking on the Platte. Get out there and don’t take it for granted.

Views from the Senior Center. What a way to get wet and be entertained too! Kudos to the swimmers for enjoying life to it’s fullest. Summertime fun on West Bay. For me it was so fun to capture the Robinson Bay, The State of Michigan & the Manitou, I believe, all in one image.

Well it’s been awhile since I could take any photos. I’ve been too busy with clients and too busy with life. Now here we are smoky skies and lots of PM2.5. The tiny PM2.5 particles scatter sunlight, reducing visibility and creating that milky or orange appearance we see outside on bad smoke days. I remember being amazed by them a few years ago when we began seeing wildfire smoke in summer. The effect is worth noting at sunset. This evening and a couple before I took to the downtown area and got some incredible photos because of it. Enjoy.
