Serving your favorite drinks at your wedding is one of my favorite little details. It tells your guests a bit about who you are, and it photographs beautifully too. His gin and tonic and her spicy Moscow mule went from golden hour in the vineyard to moody cave lighting, and I loved both.

Here’s my secret to great portraits: really good light, and a couple who’s having a really good time. The light is my job. The good time is kind of my job too.

I’m all for the slow, swoony moments where you two get lost in each other. But sometimes the best chemistry happens on the move. Give me a walk, a twirl, a full-on run across the deck at Carmel Valley Ranch with the dress in your hand, and watch what happens. Lots of laughing. Lots of looking at each other like that.

Portraits should never feel like “ugh, more photos.” They should feel like the fun part. (Because they are.)

What details could only exist at your wedding?

For Katrina and Logan, it was this. Her brother built the seating chart. A friend hand painted every table location, all places that mean something to them. Sacramento, Monterey, San Francisco, Yosemite, Palm Springs…

Guests found their names, then stayed to look at every painting.

I photograph pieces like this twice: once before guests arrive, and again once people gather around them. The first shows what was made. The second shows why it mattered.

A little glimpse into Kaley and Spencer’s wedding day at Cazadd Cellars. The Kind of Celebration that reminds you why you love what you do.

Picking 20 images was impossible. This day was so amazing.

Nobody wants to leave their own party. Do it anyway!

Golden hour doesn’t last long, so I only need about fifteen minutes. And honestly, those fifteen minutes end up being a gift.

A little breather in the middle of a very full day. Just the two of you, no one pulling at you, a moment to reset and actually take the day in together.

You get beautiful light and beautiful portraits, and then you’re right back in it.

Worth stepping away for. Every time.

Neutrals look good. This looked alive.

White and green is timeless and will never look dated, exactly why it’s everyone’s go to.

But M + C chose differently and went with ALL the colors. Purple, coral, butter yellow, hot pink, all at once, and the whole garden woke up. Blooms spilling out into the aisle, every arrangement with its own personality.

Both choices are right. Only one of them is a decision.

Every venue is different. The light isn’t.

Light is the first thing I notice when I arrive to your wedding. Where the sun is sitting, what it’s reflecting off of, and how it will fall on the two of you.

Bright sun, open shade, a softly lit getting-ready suite. None of it is good or bad light. Every kind has something beautiful to offer when you know how to use it.

This is why I don’t need to have photographed your venue before. Light follows the same rules everywhere, and once you understand it, every location shows you where the best portraits are.

Understanding light is my craft. It’s what I bring to every venue, at every hour of your day.

Half the night happens at the bar. Make it worth the gathering.

When I ask my couples how they want their day to feel, I hear the same thing over and over: a big celebration. Drinks in hand, everyone on the dance floor, the kind of party people talk about for years.

If that’s the vibe, the bar isn’t just a detail. It’s the heart of it. This Holman Ranch bar got it so right. It pulled everyone in and kept the celebration flowing all night.
