Today, A lot of people find 19th- and 20th-century post-mortem photography to be creepy or weird. For genealogists, post-mortem photos present valuable information. It provides a glimpse into how 19th- and 20th-century families honored the deceased; it provides a connection to the past. It’s often shocking to stumble upon a post-mortem photo if you aren’t ready for it. However, once you get past the initial jolt, you can start to evaluate the photo for clues and importance.

We've taken photos of the MX Awards in the past, but this is the first time we're taking a photo of our very own MX Award! We are thrilled and honored to receive the award for Best Direct Mail Campaign of the Year at . Thank you for the recognition, AMA Baltimore. Congrats to all of the winners!

Donors are essential to many organizations and are often part of legacy walls. The Community College of Baltimore County (CCBC) wanted to create an impressive display for two donors in one of their building’s lobbies. They didn’t want a photograph. They wanted something that looked like a painting.

CCBC already had the photos they wanted to be painted. We photographed the images and rendered them as paintings to be printed on canvas. Each canvas was hand-stretched and painted. CCBC chose a large silver moulding with a black liner, a modern twist on a traditional painting frame design. Each frame has a bronze plaque next to it with names and a short biography. The final pieces were installed on either side of the entrance stairwell, a truly remarkable presentation.

At our studio, we love custom-framing wedding gifts. They are memorable, meaningful, and unique. You may get three gravy boats, but you’ll only get one of these frames. Most couples register for a silver frame at Pottery Barn or some equivalent. It’s only after the wedding–when they have a clear head and hundreds of photos–that they wish they registered for custom framing. Rising temperatures, blooming flowers, emerging out of eternal darkness–spring is here. For those who specialize in all things architecture, it is time to start thinking about spring architecture photos.

Why?

The landscaping is fresh, and the foliage is light. The flowers are in bloom, and the daylight is appealing. The spring sweet spot only lasts for a few weeks before storms and haze arrive on the scene wreaking havoc on photography shoots. We had a weird, dry winter this year in the Mid-Atlantic, and spring can be just as unpredictable. (What is with all of the rain this week?!)
