Today is June 14th... a very special day because on this date 7 years ago, sweet little Barrett Bone made his speedy debut into the world. (And yes, I still laugh thinking about how mama Katy progressed so quickly that I nearly missed his arrival altogether—thank goodness for her "fake" pushing that bought me just enough time to get there and capture those first precious moments.)
What no one knew that day was that Barrett was born with Alveolar Capillary Dysplasia, a rare and fatal lung condition. His family would spend 28 beautiful, love-filled days with him before he gained his angel wings.
The Bone family is incredibly dear to my heart, and watching the way they've carried Barrett's legacy forward has been nothing short of inspiring.
A few years ago, they created Blessings for Barrett, a nonprofit dedicated to supporting siblings who have experienced the loss of a brother or sister through pregnancy, infancy, or childhood loss. Through care packages, resources, support, and advocacy, they are helping grieving children feel seen, remembered, and supported during some of the hardest moments a family can face.
What began as a family's love for their son has grown into something that is touching countless lives. Blessings for Barrett is a beautiful reminder that even in the deepest grief, love can create hope, healing, and connection for others walking a similar path.
Today, I'm remembering sweet Barrett, celebrating the incredible family who loves him so fiercely, and feeling grateful for the impact his life continues to have on so many. 💙
Also, this is why photos are so, so important. While this family's photo albums of sweet Barrett are filled with NICU photos, they are also filled with these - those first tender moments of snuggles, cuddles, and all of the love. 💙💙💙
