I have this photo on the background of my iPad. As an entrepreneur I can’t help but question, why? Why does this photograph hold so much meaning out of the many I have in this gallery.

I want to provide a meaningful service and I can’t do that with confidence unless I deeply believe in ‘why’ my work is valuable. Practical business structuring, Katrina. Yes but, how many businesses deeply take time to discover how to deliver value. This industry is saturated when it comes to delivery vs marketing. Like most things it’s been commercially plagued and that comes with risk. You risk being vulnerable to comparison, perfectionism, worry, spiraling thoughts, doubt, lies, fear. As a professional in this industry and a woman who struggles, in no way do I want to trigger insecurities. I want to do good, meaningful work. So why? Why is photography valuable? Why should I keep doing this? When do people recognize the value of a photograph and what makes that photograph valuable?

I’ve found it by experience. Experiencing the insecurities and bravely stepping into them to find the answer. I found the value is in heart posture and mindset. It’s not just the focus of the photo but the focus of the heart and the intention of the session.

This photograph is valuable because it shows me the joy and genuine happiness I feel when I’m in a playful moment with my husband and he is too. I see it in how this photograph radiates our true smiles back to me. It’s valuable because of how the moment felt. It was real. How we got lost in each other by the calm comfort we felt hearing the sounds of waves during this session.

Investing in time for somebody to observe and watch what unfolds in these quiet moments of togetherness is proof they exist. That matters.

I hope as I introduce new services in 2026 that it begins to open your heart and mindset to this focus. That’s valuable. I want your walk with me to be more about intentionally capturing how God provides for you and not about comparison or pressures to pretend. Investing in photography is valuable when you can trust somebody to show you there is a light that is shining in and around you and it can be found in every season.

Meditating on Thanksgiving this morning. The oldest son is 6 in these photos. I started doing photoshoots for this family when he was 1. We talked about this the other day at this session and thinking about it now pulls my heart strings a bit. I am so grateful I am given the opportunity to give such precious keepsakes to my family’s time and time again. I truly look forward to sessions with this family and all my revisiting clients every year because it’s a time to see how they are doing and it feels like such a special relationship. Thank you for continuing to support my little business 🙏🏼
Thank you for appreciating what I can give and remembering me year after year.
