To Our Art Appreciating Friends,

As you may or may not know, the gallery for the last two of the past eight years has been open October through May showcasing amazing new and seasoned artists to the Topeka area via First Friday events and private events. Each June through September, SSG was closed as Edie and I traveled and spent time in our Colorado cabin and touring art galleries across the country. This summer, we had the privilege of capitalizing on that full time for four months celebrating birthday milestones and newly enjoyed retirements.

After much thought, future forecasting, dreaming, and discussion – the decision has been made to change how the 931 S Kansas Ave (Stephen Smith Gallery) building will be used. Effective October 1st, the “Stephen Smith Gallery” will cease as a retail gallery and the name will be removed from the signage and replaced soon with “Minney Bldg Block 1888” to celebrate the historical significance of 927, 929, and 931 S Kansas Ave., the first block of buildings using common facades in Downtown Topeka. Mr. Minney began construction of these three structures in 1888.

The plan under consideration is to make the street-level floor space (1,800 sq ft) available for a variety of uses starting January 2027. This new business model allows others to utilize the space for House Concerts, Artist Exhibitions and/or Discussions, Workshops/Trainings, New Product Launches, Networking Mixers, etc., with the two large (5’x9’) sidewalk windows for signage. Feel free to contact us for more information regarding this space.

You should know we have thoroughly enjoyed the past eight years of operating Stephen Smith Gallery and how it introduced us to many new friends and appreciators of art. We feel very blessed to have had the opportunity to connect artists with investors/collectors and advance the arts in our community. We hope you will continue to support the arts and local artists.

We will continue some online art offerings through www.stephensmithgallery.com. Thanks again for your friendship, years of mutual support and enriching our art community.

We are hopeful to stay in touch, so feel free to call anytime and continue to follow our Facebook for updates.

Sincerely,
Stephen and Edie

Her depiction of landscapes through abstract acrylic combined with cold wax or pastel is truly striking. Come see her works before it's too late. To say we like things that EXPLODE is an understatement! These special works each have their own meaning of explosion - burst of color, neurons, spiraling motion, eruption of flowers, etc. If you feel compelled to add some explosive movement to your home or office, we might have the right piece of art to fill your need. Come see us before May 30, as the gallery will be closing for the summer. And don't forget Father's Day is coming soon.
