Happy Birthday, Theodore!

Today marks a special milestone—one year ago, I received a call from Claire, sharing the good news that Annie was in labor and inviting me to join them. A quick stop at the gas station reminded me of the importance of always being prepared as a birth worker—keeping my tank half full for moments like this! Once arriving at their home, I sat with Annie as she labored in the warm embrace of the birthing tub, and after a couple hours, she welcomed her precious baby boy into her arms. What a memorable and beautiful moment to witness!

One year ago today, I was walking off the sweet aftermath of my first birth experience as a doula, celebrating the arrival of little Miss Oakley into this world. I made it home just in time for a nap, followed by breakfast with my siblings and a trip to the circus with my own little family! The day before Oakley’s mother labored beautifully at home for quite some time before we transitioned to the labor and delivery room, seeking comfort and rest. There, we were embraced by nurses who felt like angels sent from above. Dad and I took turns finding moments of rest and nourishment while Mama got herself a nap and continued her powerful journey with the guidance of the most incredible nurse I’ve ever encountered. The impact of that day and that staff still resonates within me. I truly felt that my prayers for a smooth and beautiful experience were answered for this family. What a beautiful blessing it was!

Honoring Midwife Mary Breckinridge & Her Impact on Maternal Wellness

📖 Did you know?
Mary Breckinridge (1881–1965) revolutionized maternal healthcare in rural America. As the founder of the Frontier Nursing Service (FNS) in 1925, she brought trained nurse-midwives to underserved Appalachian communities, drastically reducing maternal and infant mortality rates.

🚑 Her Impact:
She introduced nurse-midwifery to the U.S., ensuring women in remote areas had access to skilled birth attendants.
Her work led to improved prenatal care, better birth outcomes, and inspired modern maternal health programs.
The Frontier Nursing Service set a foundation for today’s midwifery practices, proving that access to trained care saves lives.

🌟 Why it matters today: Breckinridge’s legacy reminds us that every mother deserves quality care, no matter her circumstances. Maternal health disparities still exist, and advocating for better access to midwifery and community-based care remains crucial.

Let’s honor the trailblazers who shaped maternal health and continue pushing for better care for all mothers! 💜

Having a support team that is aware of and sensitive to trauma-related responses is incredibly important. It’s essential for them to understand the impact of birth-related trauma on families and to create an environment that fosters healing and open communication.

Hey there, beautiful souls! It’s Haley, the face behind this little space on the internet! 🌼

It’s been a minute since I shared a little about myself, so I felt the call to do so today!

I’m a proud mama to one sweet little boy and I’m eagerly awaiting the arrival of another little spirit whenever God sees fit. I’ve been on this beautiful journey with my amazing husband since I was just 19 and he was 21. With every passing year, we uncover new layers of each other and fall deeper in love, and I can truly say I feel blessed beyond measure. Born and raised in northeast Indiana, I truly treasure this community, though the chilly winters sometimes make me question my choice to stick around. My journey with birth started way back at 14, but it was my own birthing experience that truly led me into this heart-centered work. I picked up my camera in 2020, and it was during my pregnancy that I found my passion for capturing the magic of birth.

Professionally, I dove deep into my doula training in New York, learning from the wise and wonderful traditional midwife, Whapio. This enlightening experience totally reshaped how I see birth. I also earned my NRP certification, which helped me heal from some of my own birth experiences. Plus, I’ve been soaking up wisdom from the Birth Becomes You family of photographers. Balancing my certification with a toddler has been a wild ride, but it’s definitely on my vision board to complete for 2025! Since June 2023, I’ve also been embraced by the Birth Belongs to Women community. This continuous mentorship has showered me with more support, love, and enlightenment than I ever could have expected. My journey as a doula alongside these incredible women has truly been life-changing!

My care approach is all about sisterhood and support, focusing on the families I’m honored to serve. I truly believe having a camera in the birth space can be a beautiful experience, though it’s not a must. I love the idea of capturing moments so families can relive that joy again and again. But I also honor the sacredness of birth, understanding that photography isn’t for everyone. That’s why I’m here as a doula first and foremost! Through the connections we cultivate during pregnancy, I’m committed to ensuring you have the support you desire during labor. Whether it’s providing physical support, creating a cozy space, offering nourishment, whispering sweet encouragement, or simply holding space with love and trust, I’m here for you.

Every birth is a unique tapestry, and I’m here to capture those special stories for you or to be that comforting hand to hold as you journey through birth.

Feel free to reach out if you have any questions or want to meet up for some coffee and good conversation!

Thank you to all the lovely beings who have supported me on this path. I know some may ask, “Doula? What’s that all about?” Stick around, and you’ll find out! 🤍✨

Valentine’s Day inspired me to think about the love we share with our spouses, which obviously made me reflect on the vital role husband's play in the birth experience. Our partners are not intended to just sit aimlessly at our side; they are our anchors, providing comfort, advocacy, and strength during this incredibly transformative experience. Together, we navigate this beautiful journey, hand in hand.

Happy Valentine's Day! Remember, while you're out there sharing chocolates and love, I'm just here reminding couples that every heart-shaped box could lead to seeing me in November!
