All of my photos so far are of the Onaqui herd of wild mustangs who live in the wilderness area of the West Desert of Utah. When the BLM initiates a roundup, all the horses that are captured have a freeze brand put on the left side of their neck. It tells their approximate age and their unique ID number. If you see any photos of horses with BH or BZ on their hip it means that this is a mare who ha

s been given a birth control shot and then released again. Not all horses captured in a roundup are kept, that is why you will some out on the range who have a freeze brand.

Happy October, everyone!
The printing company I use for the calendars does not offer a discount code for buying in bulk this year, for the first time. Several people have expressed interest in wanting a calendar, so I just wanted to get a ballpark figure of who all would order one. They will be $20 each, and I am editing photos now as I recover from knee surgery so that I can have 13 photos that have not been on a calendar before. Please let me know if you are interested.

A follow up to the Press Release by the BLM regarding the shooting and deaths of two Onaqui stallions:

‼️Actions you can take‼️

‣ Please send info directly to the BLM Utah Law Enforcement Tipline at 800-722-3998. You can choose to remain anonymous. We do not recommend posting information directly online out of an abundance of caution for the community's safety. Please DM or email a message instead.

‣ If you have photos from the south herd in the last week, please submit them + location here: https://www.jotform.com/211757770093157

‣ Please like, share, and comment as many of the posts/articles/etc. as you can from all organizations. Make sure the tip phone line information is included! Changing the time of day you share and comment aids in information spread. Social media is one of our greatest tools to reach the public. Let’s get this out there!

ℹ️Additional Guidelines and Informationℹ️

‣ These killings of our protected mustangs are a federal crime and are being handled as such, thus OCF will not be providing more information outside of what is being released through the authoritative (BLM, Sherriff) channels. We are solely focused on supporting their efforts.

‣ We encourage visitors to the range to use caution. Your safety is of the utmost importance.

‣ Please keep the wild mustangs wild by adhering to distance requirements when out on the range (at minimum 100 feet, and 300 feet for new foals). We want wildlife to be at a distance, not comfortable with people and vehicles at close range.

‣ OCF does not generally fundraise, however the funds we have collected in the past have been earmarked for a database to hold all the photos and files that comes with documenting the herd. We want to be transparent--the organization currently has a surplus of $2500, and we made a decision to use all available dollars for the reward money fund. Thank you to each and every one of you who has given us funds in the past. This would not have been possible without you.

We appreciate the BLM and Law Enforcement efforts to find justice and OCF is ready to assist them if necessary. Thank you to the community for rallying together.

Due to school and work it has been close to two years since I’ve enjoyed time with my beloved Onaqui. My smart lab instructors told me I needed to take at least a day to myself or else I would burn out. Today I finally saw the herd and I was lucky enough to find the northern part, and most of the southern part, all together at a tucked away waterhole. The bad news is that when I came home to edit and post my pictures I found out my laptop had broken! So I have no gorgeous photos to show you! Instead, I will pay a tribute to a magnificent stallion I called “The Lieutenant” and others called “Red Cloud”. He passed away on the range last month and no one knows why. This might be my favorite picture of him because it shows his soft side. Please enjoy and hopefully I will get my laptop fixed very soon so you can see new pictures of the herd that you love so much.
