Maybe this is my millennial showing, but I saw a photographer in the industry say that posting about sessions on social media is DEAD. What do you think? If you were looking to hire a photographer and all you saw were reels of them talking to the camera and not a portfolio of their work, would you book them?

Maybe this is just showing my age, but I post so many sessions so YOU know what my work looks like. Is that dated? Does anyone even care any more? According to this girl, no one does...thoughts?

You know how just when you need to be on your game, you brain blanks under pressure?

Believe it or not this was a habitual occurrence for my family and newborn sessions. I would have ideas going into the session of new things I wanted to try or poses/prompts I wanted to use and in the hustle and bustle of managing the session I would go blank and go back to my tried and true methods. Nothing wrong with that, but I was losing the artistic spark I once had by getting lost in the "job" of it all.

This year I have started a more robust prep process for my clients and our sessions including a few additional steps. One of those being a sketch process before your session. It gives me the time and space to think through our sessions without the pressures that come with conducting a professional session. I can draw out poses and prompts (with beautiful stick figures I might add) and really plan how I will make the beautiful images you've grown to expect. It allows me to stay fresh and try new things and I am really starting to see the fruits of this labor! Fresh and new photos that not only my clients love, but I do too!

I am officially back from vacation! Our family had some much needed time away exploring the mountains of Utah and I can't wait to show you some of the things my camera saw while we were away. Something about a change of scenery changes how the brain works.

BUT, now its go time for school.

Are you sending kids back to school soon? We've got meet the teacher, haircuts, pantry stock ups and more planned for the next 7 days because school is coming up so fast!

If you want to include a maternity session, book 3-4 months before your due date. This helps you plan comfortably and allows us to appreciate the moments before you deliver, even if baby arrives early.

If maternity sessions aren't for you, start booking 2-3 months before your due date. It keeps you organized and prepared for the little one's arrival.
