Rainbow baby after still birth
I've typed and deleted what to say in this post several times now. And I believe that's because there are truly no words to express such an experience as walking beside a family and documenting some of the hardest moments imaginable, and then also be there to experience the joy, sunshine, and love that life brings. This month I was honored to photograph them again and meet their sweet rainbow baby, Antonio. In the summer of 2019 his big sister, Hannah was born sleeping and I was called to the hospital to photograph her. I will never forget her beautiful angel face and the weight of wanting to make sure I captured exactly what her grieving family needed. Sweet Hannah and her family hold such a special place in my heart, and I'm beyond happy for them to be settling in at home with their precious rainbow baby. Love you guys!

One of the best things about photographing families year after year is seeing how they grow. I was so excited to photograph this beautiful family with their newest little one this season. To all the families I photograph, thank you for the opportunity to capture these sweet, chaotic growing years for you. One day long from now when your nest is empty I hope you can look back on these memories and feel that overwhelm of unconditional love that got you through the hardest of days. Did anyone warn you about fundal massages? No one warned me and when my nurse did the first one, I was like, "what is this fresh hell??" 😂😱⁠

So what is a fundal massage anyways? ⁠
⁠
It is when your OB, midwife or nurse vigorously rubs down on your fundus (the top of your uterus) after your baby is born to cause your uterus to contract and clamp down on where your placenta was attached so you don't bleed out. They do this every 15 minutes or so for the first couple of hours until your bleeding is slowed down.⁠
