I’m truly happy to have made this a thing that began as a random idea a few years ago. This space fills with the voices of folks learning from one another as they wait for their turn. What more should one desire from life in a moment of community? Thank you again to those who came by and see you next year for those who couldn't make it. As much as I hate to do this, I’m delaying my annual backyard sessions by a week due to the potential for rain. With that said, next Sunday, May 31, from 1-4 pm I'll have an open session in my backyard, meaning come when you can. As in prior years, this is informal and lasts about 20 minutes/ 5-6 frames. No special requests (head shots or extra poses). I'm in year 4 of this thing and would love for you to be a part of it.

For the last decade or so, I’ve lived by the phrase “Just Another Man Escaping Stress,” a play on my government name, and the title of this piece. Why? I’ve survived police brutality, psychological trauma, and loss, while keeping myself a few steps short of the ledge. These experiences inform my work as a photographer and student of life. Anyway, this piece will be on display next weekend. It is a small dialogue on vulnerability in mixed media format. Peep it along with the work of many incredible artists on May 16.

Back in 2018/19, your mom connected us during a period when I was learning to trust the world again. I was afraid to share the first photos I made of you, cuz I was used to keeping ni**as at arm’s length, so I kept them tucked away. Fast forward to today, and I’m sitting with a plethora of memories we share through photography and a genuine love for each other. Deep conversations, trips, music, and expensive bar nights strengthened that bond and I’m grateful for it. You’re someone I believe in, which is why I’m beyond excited for your first solo exhibition. You have so much to contribute to the world. Keep that fire lit and remember to follow your heart. Love you, .wulfgang, and thank you for introducing me to your son. I've been relying on Gregory Halpern's advice through a workshop and began posting across platforms like Craigslist and Reddit to foster a different form of engagement. So far, it has been hit or miss likely because Toledo is much smaller than Rochester, NY but the rewards have been worth the gamble. I feel like these photographs are rough edged, but in a year or two I'll have a different type of comfort between myself, this Pentax camera, and the waiting period between hits online. Grateful to the folks I've been able to link with.
