The ONE day I wanted it to KEEP raining...

This weekend was a wild one. I was everywhere but home but that rain... that rain made things interesting.

So apparently, the photography gods have decided to drag me to feudal Japan today.

…in Philly. 😂

We’re out at Shofuso Japanese Cultural Center, and let me tell you—this place is ridiculously beautiful.

Peaceful pond? ✔️
Giant bonsai? ✔️
Traditional Japanese architecture? ✔️
Beautiful gardens? ✔️

Me walking around pretending I know exactly what I’m doing?

Absolutely. 😂📸

This is actually my first time photographing in a traditional Japanese space, and I’m not mad about it.

Because THIS is one of the reasons I love photography.

One day I’m photographing a crazy-ass wedding reception.

The next day I’m surrounded by bonsai, koi ponds and architecture that makes you stop and say, “Damn…”

Different places.
Different people.
Different stories.

And somehow, I get to call this work.

Yeah… I think I’ll keep doing this.

I'm a storyteller.

And THIS couple? Oh, they had a story to tell. 😂

These two have a tradition whenever they travel: he “k!lls” her in the photos. Yep. Murd@r pics. It's their thing. I don't judge. Honestly… I'm down for it. 😂

So when they asked if we could bring that little tradition into their wedding photos, my answer was simple:

Challenge accepted.

They even brought a bottle of “poison.” ☠️

Because your wedding photos don't have to look like everybody else's.

Your inside jokes. Your weird little traditions. Your personalities. The stuff that makes your relationship yours—THAT'S the good stuff.

Anybody can take a pretty picture.

I want to tell YOUR story. AND take pretty pictures.

Even when somebody ends up “dead” in the process.

Public Service Announcement...

Please...

Stop trying to kill your photographer (or your bride) by attempting a wedding dip you learned from TikTok. 😂

I swear every wedding season I see somebody go...

"Babe...I got this."

No...

No, you don't.

Here's the secret.

The dip isn't about your arms.

It's about your LEGS.

Your front leg is doing almost all the work. Think of it like a lunge—not a deadlift.

Now brides...

This is where you come in.

Trust your guy.

Go limp.

(I know...that's probably the first time you've heard another man tell you that. 😂)

Seriously though...

The more you try to hold yourself up, the harder you're making it on him.

Relax.

Trust him.

Lean back.

Now everybody looks amazing.

Nobody throws out their back.

Nobody drops the bride.

Everybody wins.

This is why I spend time directing my couples instead of just yelling "Look happy!"

After photographing weddings for more than a decade, I've learned one thing:

Amazing photos don't happen because you're photogenic.

They happen because someone knows how to get you there.

If I can make two people who've never modeled a day in their lives look like they belong on the cover of a bridal magazine...

I'm doing my job.

Confession time: I dropped a camera down 3 stairs during a first dance 😳. The scariest 35 seconds of my 10+ year wedding career... and somehow, it survived! 📸😂
