Twenty-five years ago, I was sitting in my government and economics class my senior year of high school. The TV was on. Nobody fully understood what we were watching. Just confusion, and then fear, and then a kind of grief that settled into that room and never quite left.
I think about the people who ran toward it when every instinct said run away. The firefighters, the first responders, the strangers who held hands with other strangers in the most terrifying moments of their lives. The ones who never made it home.
Today I’m not just remembering an event. I’m honoring people. Real ones. With families and futures and ordinary Tuesday morning plans that were taken from them without warning.
To those who fell, to those who gave everything to help others survive, to those still carrying the weight of that day: you are not forgotten.
Never forgotten. 🇺🇸
