I know I’m drawn to the moody, abstract type portrait work but I always love clean, well lit studio captures like these.

Shots for Abe Culbreath | Abe attends Berklee College of Music, but he grew up right around the corner in my neighborhood. We took these photos last year before he left for Boston.

Although I’d seen Abe around the neighborhood walking his dog, I wasn’t aware of his musical abilities until fall 2024.

At the time, I was promoting a writer’s round I had scheduled at my studio for several traveling Nashville artists. I was searching for local talent to round out the lineup and hopefully draw a larger crowd, but I hadn’t had much luck. At a community event in November, I saw Abe perform with his father. I knew instantly that I wanted him to be part of the writer’s round. As soon as they finished playing, I walked up to the stage, told him about the show, and got him locked in.

Abe impressed everyone the night of the show. Several Nashville songwriters—many with radio-charting credits—came up to me raving about his voice, technique, and overall stage presence. It came as no surprise when I later learned he had been accepted to Berklee.
