In 2020, the world was a hot mess. Everything was shutting down and the life that I thought I would have no longer meant anything to me.
I was fed up with the people around me, hated where I lived, and no longer saw a future in the job I had.
That’s when a friend I had just met invited me to an Airbnb she had rented with her Covid money.
There was one catch, it was 9 hours away and my work schedule was already made.
I desperately wanted the break from reality and so I began others to swap shifts and made it so I could go if I worked 17 hours straight.
After clocking out of my 17hr shift, I drove straight up north, crossing the bridge for the first time at 2am.
We spent the weekend roaming the area, hiking to waterfalls, stopping at museums, eating at great restaurants, and just enjoying life without the stress of what’s next.
I felt home.
And even better, I felt happy for the first time since Covid had started.
When I came home, I was instantly depressed again. I believe it was location based so I told everyone I was done and I was just going to move up north.
Someone made me realize that my problems would come with me and quite frankly told me about the million other problems that would also create that I would also need to solve to experience the joy I felt on the trip.
So I decided to solve the problems I was currently having and I moved out of where I was living and quit my job.
That helped a little bit but it still didn’t give me the high I was chasing.
I realized that I was stuck in my normal routine and didn’t do any of the things I enjoyed so much when I was in the UP.
That’s when I made it my mission to start actually enjoying where I live and exploring new things.
And guess what, I became so much happier.
I created this Instagram account to keep myself accountable and doing the stuff that made me so happy even though I only get to visit the UP once a year.
So follow and join me on this mission to be happy despite my surrounding!
I’m posting all the locations I go to and what makes them so special!
