One of my favorite things about branding photography is watching what happens after the session.

I’ve had the privilege of photographing Lina Dion-Inglis , founder of Joy Lab - Ceramics in Community , for two sessions; first was a headshot mini and the second was custom branding. It’s been amazing to watch as the images we create together become more than beautiful photos.

The portraits we created together have helped shape the visual direction of her brand.

When we met for her most recent brand strategy appointment, I had her describe how she wants her brand to feel: colorful, creative, playful, mixed with a little of the unexpected. What resulted are images that are completely and unmistakably Lina.

These portraits became part of the inspiration and visual language for her website, helping bring the personality behind Joy Lab Ceramics to life before someone ever steps through the studio doors. And that is what great branding photography should do.

Today is my mom’s birthday. She would have been 77.

She was a woman of deep faith, endless compassion, and my biggest cheerleader. She believed in me long before I believed in myself, encouraged me to build Alyson Berg Photography, and inspired the heart behind everything I do.

I miss her every single day, but today I’d love to honor her memory in a way I know she would have loved, and that’s by celebrating others.

Tomorrow, Aug 6th, would have been my mom’s 77th birthday.

Last summer, we gathered for this family portrait. At the time, I knew I wanted an updated picture of all of us together. Her cancer had returned and I didn’t know how much longer we’d have with her.

Tomorrow, in honor of my mom, I’ll be launching The Legacy Portrait Experience, a special birthday tribute inspired by the woman who shaped the heart behind everything I do.

Portraits become so much more than photographs. They become reminders of the people we love, the stories we’ve shared, and the legacy that lives on.

How often do you get family portraits done?

The answer varies from one client to another.

This beautiful family comes to me every two years and they’re already on the books for October this year.

Mom loved the idea of a growing gallery wall in her living room the first time we talked in 2022. We photographed their first beach session and three of those portraits became the heart of their wall. Two years later, we returned to the beach and added four new framed portraits, capturing just how much these two kiddos had grown, while keeping the look beautifully cohesive. And now… it’s time for the next chapter!

This October we’re trading sand and ocean for the studio. We’re creating something different: modern, editorial, clean lines, Vogue-inspired styling, and images that feel like they belong in the pages of a magazine.

One of the greatest gifts of this work is becoming part of the lives of incredible families and having the privilege of documenting their journey year after year.

For the last few weeks, I’ve been a little quiet here.

On June 23rd, my mom passed away. And it really shook me.

We knew this day would come after she made the decision in February to stop treatment for her metastatic breast cancer. But knowing it was coming didn’t make it any easier. It hit harder than I expected.

Since then, it’s been a few weeks of grief, gratitude, and reflection. And as my sister and I have gone through photographs, j keep coming back to this portrait.

I photographed my mom in 2017 while I was building my beauty and branding portfolio. At the time, I simply needed someone willing to step in front of my camera. And of course, when I asked my mom, she immediately said yes to something that would help me out.

Today, this portrait has become one of my most treasured memories. When I look at it, I don’t just see a beautiful photograph. I see the woman who believed in me before so many others did.

She encouraged me when I started Alyson Berg Photography, cared for Payton so I could photograph clients and attend networking meetings, and proudly told anyone who would listen about my work.

The older I get, the more I know that the work I do isn’t just about pretty pictures. It’s about honoring remarkable women, like my mom, who may or may not be good about celebrating themselves.

I’m so grateful I have this portrait, because it reminds me every day of the remarkable woman who shaped my life.

Her birthday would have been August 6th.

To celebrate her life and continue the legacy she inspired, I’m opening 12 portrait experiences at a special birthday rate. My hope is to give 12 women the opportunity to see themselves with the same love and significance my mom saw in everyone else.

One day they’re a tiny bundle asleep in your arms. Then they’re a sticky hand reaching for yours as you cross the street. Before you know it, they’re wrapping you in a bear hug before walking across the stage in a cap and gown.

Motherhood is a collection of moments that feels endless while you’re living them and impossibly brief when you look back. And we always think we’ll remember it all. The late night feedings, sleepy cuddles, first steps, missing teeth, school drop-offs, and last first days.

But time has a way of quietly slipping through our fingers.

I don’t just photograph newborns, families, or milestones. I create artwork that tells the story of your motherhood journey.
