Another Senior Portrait session! This is Caleb from Riverdale Ridge HS. We actually went and did his photo session at the same locations with did his brother's photos about 5 years ago: starting in Denver's City Park, then driving a few minutes to the RiNo District for a more urban look.

We had a few minutes of rain and some gusty winds, but they passed through soon enough, and the rest of the session went great! I was sad to see one of my favorites buildings in the RiNo area has been painted some hideous colors since the last time I was there, but we were able to find some other nice spots. Truthfully, walking around down there, every time you turn around, you can find something interesting, so there were plenty of other opportunities.

Got up early yesterday and headed out to the Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge to see what I could see. I got there a couple hours earlier than usual, hoping there might be a little more activity than I see during the hotter part of the day. Did one loop around the Wildlife Drive, and the full loop around Lake Ladora. I know people have seen badgers out there early in the morning recently, so I was hoping to spy one of those. No dice. There was actually very little going on. Quite a few hawks. More than usual. But they were either deep in the trees where my camera couldn't see, or they flew past before I even knew they were there.

So, a nice morning out, but not as much as I was hoping to see.

More senior portraits! This is Chloe from Riverdale Ridge HS. We had a beautiful evening out at the always-popular South Mesa Trailhead about a week ago. There was a bit of a weather forecast scare, but any rain blew through quickly about an hour before we got there, and it turned out to be fairly pleasant! After days of 100°+ temperatures, this was a nice change of pace.

With extreme temperatures and very little rain, this area was a lot drier than it's been in previous years, but we were able to find some little bits of green, and made good use of the golden grasses that we usually don't see as much until later in the fall.

Another recent Senior Portrait session! This is Brooklyn from Riverdale Ridge HS. She wanted to do her photo session at Hudson Gardens in Littleton. One great thing about Hudson Gardens: when the rest of the state is roasting, brown and crispy, you can count on Hudson Gardens to be lush and green! This is such a fantastic spot for photo sessions! Unfortunately, I'm generally at the north end of the metro area, and this is down south, so I don't make it down this way very often.

We're in the part of the year when it's both blazing hot, while also having regular afternoon rain and thunderstorms, so we had our fingers crossed that it would all work out. After a bunch of 100-degree days, we were blessed with only the upper-90s for this session! We did end up with about 10 minutes of rain showers in the middle of the session. The weather radar made it look like it was going to get worse that evening, but while we were on our phones trying to figure out if we needed to reschedule, the rain tapered off, and we decided to soldier on. And it ended up being a beautiful evening for the rest of the session!

We had a great time out there, and I think the photos came out amazing!

More senior portraits the other night! This is Braedy from Riverdale Ridge HS. Braedy plays soccer for Riverdale Ridge, so he wanted a few photos at the school stadium before we headed just a few minutes down the road to Riverdale Regional Park for the rest of the session. A few drops of rain didn't cause any problems, but a slight breeze caused some small issues once again! In the end, the photos came out great!

Headed out to Barr Lake with Lisa Young Murphy this morning for a little bird walk. Beautiful morning when we got there, ridiculously hot when we finished! There is definitely not a lot of shade out there!

The water level is super-low right now, so we were nowhere near the water's edge, even walking out on the gazebo boardwalk which usually takes you out over the water. Some of that area is now just dirt and sand, but a lot of it is now a huge expanse of plant growth. So even without the water, there was a lot to see today.

First senior portrait session of the year! Kicking things off this season with Jameson from Legacy High School. Jameson wanted some photos with buildings, plus some nature photos with a mountain backdrop. In order to squeeze those into the same session, we decided to shoot a CU for a bit, then head over to the South Mesa Trailhead. Then, at the very end, we took a quick drive up to an overlook on Hwy 93, and hoped for a good sunset. Unfortunately, the sunset was a bit of a letdown. But overall it was a fun, if EXTREMELY hot, photo session.

It's seems early, but I actually just started doing sports photos for the upcoming 2026-27 school year today! Kicking things off with Senior Banners for the Legacy HS Softball team! I met them out at the school before their morning practice. Getting into the school during the summer isn't easy, so we found a nice spot that was in the shade just long enough to get the photos done.

The banner design looks great, and I can't wait to share some photos of them hanging up on the fence in the next week or so!

I'll also be doing their full Team & Individual photos once they have tryouts and get the teams sorted out. Stay tuned!

Very hot day at the Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge! Unfortunately, I had to wait until today's stage of the Tour de France was over, so we got out there a little later than usual. All these photos are from the hike around Lake Ladora.
