There is something incredibly special about watching multiple generations come together on the shores of Lake Michigan. ❤️

Extended family sessions aren't just about updating the photo wall—they're about preserving the people who built your story. The grandparents who started it all. The cousins growing up too fast. The laughter, the chaos, the hugs, and the moments you'll wish you could relive years from now.

Northern Michigan beaches create the perfect backdrop for timeless family photographs, whether you're vacationing in Traverse City, Crystal Mountain, Frankfort, Sleeping Bear Dunes, Glen Arbor, or anywhere along the Lake Michigan shoreline.

If your whole family is together this summer, don't let the opportunity pass by. These are the photos your children—and someday your grandchildren—will treasure most.

Every once in a while, I need to make something with no agenda.

Not for a client.
Not for social media.
Not because it's trending.

Just because creating reminds me who I am.

Art has a way of pulling us out of survival mode and back into ourselves. It quiets the noise, slows our breathing, and helps us notice beauty again.

And if that art happens to involve standing in a lake... even better.

Water has always been a reset for me. It washes away the mental clutter, makes space to think, and reminds me that not everything has to be rushed.

So here's your reminder today:

Create something.
Get outside.
Put your feet in the water.
Make time for the things that make you feel alive.

Your soul needs those moments more than your to-do list does. 🤍

The reason I recommend sunset photos has almost nothing to do with photography.

I know.

Photographers everywhere just gasped.

Yes, the light is beautiful.
Yes, the photos are gorgeous.
But that's not the real reason.

By the time sunset arrives, most couples have been entertaining guests, making decisions, hugging relatives, and being "on" for six to eight hours.

They're tired.

Sometimes they're overwhelmed.

Sometimes they haven't had a real conversation all day.

At Kolbi and Braxton's wedding, we slipped away for sunset portraits. I could tell they were done being photographed.

So we stopped.

Kolbi laid down in the grass.
Braxton laid down beside her.

I gave them room.
For a few minutes, there wasn't a camera in their faces.

No posing.
No expectations.

Just space.

Afterward they told me it was exactly what they needed.

And honestly?

That's the real purpose of sunset portraits. So you can make a beautiful memory together on your wedding day.

The photos are just the bonus.

One of the biggest misconceptions about wedding photography is that every wedding should be photographed the same way.

The truth is that my approach changes with every couple.

Tess and Shane told me they wanted to be present.

Not "present" in the Instagram caption kind of way.

Actually present.

Present with their people.
Present with each other.
Present in the celebration.

They didn't want a day that felt like a photoshoot interrupted by a wedding.
They wanted a wedding that happened naturally while great photos were created around it.

So I adjusted my approach.

Portraits were more editorial, romantic, playful, and candid.
I used direct flash throughout the day to lean into the energy and atmosphere they loved.
I stepped in with direction when needed.
And just as importantly, I stepped away when they needed space.

Because the goal isn't to photograph every second.

The goal is to create photographs that feel like your day.

That's why no two galleries I deliver ever look exactly the same.
The photos should reflect you, not me.

Kolbi & Braxton’s wedding at Little Flower Barn is a great example of what happens when the photography approach is intentionally customized to the couple—not just the timeline.

Kolbi specifically asked for a blend of two distinct “modes” throughout the day, and that request shaped everything.

The first half of the day was more guided and traditional. This is where I use natural direction to create calm, intentional portraits while still keeping everything feeling like them. Nothing stiff or overly posed, just gentle structure that helps people settle in front of the camera.

Once the ceremony began, everything transitioned into a completely different rhythm.

This is where the second mode takes over—fully candid, observational storytelling. Less direction, more anticipation. The focus shifts to real reactions, movement, connection, and all the in-between moments that can’t be recreated later.

Kolbi and Braxton, I love you both! Congratulations. I can't wait to share the rest of your gallery with you in a few weeks.

The sky really showed up on their wedding day 🌧️✨
Sure, the rain was a bummer—but the drama? Unmatched. From a torrential downpour to the most incredible sunset, it felt like the sky was celebrating right along with them. A wet knot is harder to untie, and these two are so deeply in love it just felt like a good omen. Proof that even the stormiest moments can lead to the most beautiful endings.

2025, you were full of heart.
Full dance floors, quiet moments, happy tears, and families showing up big.
I photographed weddings that felt deeply personal—days built around connection, not perfection—and I don’t take that lightly.

To every couple who trusted me with their memories: thank you.
This year reminded me why storytelling will always matter more than trends 🤍
