Behind Every Beautiful Thing: Encountering Bodies, Wrestling the Human Condition ◽
Following an unprecedented pandemic year, the heightened visibility of health inequity throughout the nation has elevated concerns about mental and physical well-being, the industrialization of medical practices, disease, illness, and (dis)/ability. Featuring multimedia artworks from 36 Gulf South artists, the CAC’s annual Open Call exhibition offers a deeply personal portrayal of artists’ experiences with health and illness, and the reverberating impact on the life, body, and psyche of the individual and their community.

Opening Night for the CAC's 2021 Gulf South Open Call exhibition: "Behind Every Beautiful Thing: Encountering Bodies, Wrestling the Human Condition," on view July 31 – September 26, 2021. Admission is free and open to the public!

The night will feature libations, food, music by DJ Felice Gee, and a newly-commissioned ritual performance by Gia Hamilton in the "Gris Gris Lab," located in the CAC's Oval Gallery.

New News 📢 Upcoming Exhibition! 🚨 For the first time in y e a r s I'll be showing a couple photos in a p u b l i c space. 😬

You can find them in an upcoming show at the Contemporary Art Center (NOLA) at the end of July (more details later!)

The pieces are from a series I just started working on using photographs I took during my chemotherapy treatments and subsequent recovery from cancer. I didn't know I needed to make this work until I started. But I'm so glad I did and totally terrified that people are going to see it 👀

This piece "A Matter of Days" wasn't chosen for the show (you'll have to wait for those!). It's a scrapbook of sorts, photos and objects collected or used during my first chemo treatment/week long honeymoon in the finest suite the oncology floor had to offer ✨🏥

These. Two. ✨ Everyone thought the grandkids would be cuttin' up but THESE TWO could not hold it together during their extended family shoot.
Even I started cry laughing 🙈

Don't ya just love love? 💕
Their daughters gifted them a whole family shoot for Christmas (parents, kids, and grandkids) and I'm so glad we waited for this beautiful spring weather to do it.

I like to keep as much focus on your tiny tot and family without too much fuss or frills. In home sessions are forever my favorites because everyone (including your newborn) feels comfortable and less stressed ☕
