While there's a tiny chance for thunderstorms in the panhandle tonight, we wanted to take a look at your Thursday. We're seeing signs of the end of the dry pattern we discussed 10 days ago. We said rain chances would likely pick up by mid May onwards, so here we are. A shortwave embedded in the high pressure over Mexico will pass through the area Thursday afternoon. This will interact with the very limited moisture across the panhandle and spark high based convection over the area. These storms will likely pack a punch with straight line winds, along with a marginal risk for small hail. Once the sun sets, so will the overall strength with any storms left over.

Beyond Thursday, we're watching this weekend closely. Sunday could foster some severe thunderstorms in our eastern areas. Both main long range models are in agreement with the pattern to end the month of May. We anticipate severe weather chances to begin to be a daily thing in the panhandle again, especially passed the May 22nd timeframe. We hope that everyone in the area hasn't forgotten what kind of severe weather we can get, but the pattern is telling us it's time to dust off the Rugrats jacket soon.
