Congratulations to the St. Anthony Bulldogs in defeating Teutopolis 5-0 at the Class 2A Vandalia regional championship.
The Bulldogs were led by seven strong innings from Aiden Lauritzen. The senior went the distance allowing no runs, five hits, two walks, and three strikeouts.
St. Anthony goes to 21-9 while Teutopolis’ season ends at 26-9.

SNEAK PEEK! Aidan Niemerg is no stranger to this page. We’ve photographed him before playing basketball for TJHS and now baseball at the high school also for his mom.

We caught up with him as well.

For Aidan, the expectations to succeed at Teutopolis High School will always be there, but making an impact in the community has been a bigger goal for him.

“The expectations are always there but the important one to be a good role model in the community and allow young ball players the opportunity to have guys to look up too, the junior said. “I feel like the last few couple years I’ve been able to make an impact on a lot of little kids lives whether that be signing autographs or taking pictures or helping out at baseball camp.”

The two year starter who plays the outfield and pitches said you do feel the pressure by playing for Ttown due to its history of success but thinks with how deep the Shoes are that they can make a deep postseason run that begins tonight.

“This year our focus is to just grow as a team and become closer than we already were and I feel like we have succeeded at that goal.”

SNEAK PEEK: We spent a few games getting action of Teutopolis’ Nolan Schumacher for his mom because you know you just can’t play more than one position at time, much to the chagrin of coaches!

The first year varsity player said there’s always pressure to perform well regardless of the Shoes’ championship history.

“There’s always pressure to try your best,” he said. “That’s not a bad thing. As long as you play for the team(and not yourself), good things will happen.”

The junior said the one thing he wanted to improve on the most was “to be a better teammate and just to try and help everyone around me.”

There’s a matter of pride when you put on the Ttown colors and for Nolan it’s the same as well.

“It means a lot to play for this town and you always want to say you tried your best.”
