Aubrey’s mom reached out to photograph her after I hearing I was going to be at the National Trail Conference Cross Country meet - which also doubled as the Bulldogs senior night.

It’s been a hot minute since I’ve done a XC meet and I’m glad Amy got hold of me.

Aubrey, in coming in first place on the girls side, set a new course record with a time of 18:52! What a way to end your senior year regular season.

A little birdie told me to expect great things from her in the postseason: you can see her in regionals at Sullivan Oct 24; sectionals at Lake Land Oct 31, and state at Detweiler Park in Peoria on Nov. 7.

Congratulations and best of luck Aubrey!

I was chatted up by a dad from another team halfway through yesterday and in the conversation I told him I was at the tournament photographing St. Anthony.

He said that they were impressive. I told him five out of the seven that participated were freshmen or sophomores. He gave me a double take.

I told him the Effingham County area is blessed with driven and talented athletes from numerous schools but in this case there are several banners hanging from the ceiling to prove it.

I told him that these players, including St. Anthony’s, have great coaches that invest in them not only as athletes but also as people and they are inspired to play for these coaches.

He turned back to me and whispered “That’s leadership. Hope they finish strong. Safe travels.”

With experience comes wisdom. With wisdom comes maturity. And with maturity comes the ability to do things you weren’t able to do.

Two-day total of 609 for sixth place at 2A state.

The state has no idea what they’re in for the next two years.

Congratulations, Bulldogs.

Morgan Stephens’s mom reached out wanting something better than just her phone pix to capture memories of Morgan’s junior year of tennis at St. Anthony. We happily obliged. And Laura got a chance to sit back, take it all, and enjoying the moment watching her daughter in her element doing what she loves without worrying about getting the shot!

We couldn’t have picked a better day for it than yesterday! The light was immaculate and Morgan had a fantastic doubles match with her partner senior Lily Hardiek winning 6-0, 6-1 and in singles winning 6-0, 6-0. That’s alot of if you ask me!

Great job, Morgan (and Lily)!

St. Anthony celebrated senior Cara Hatton’s milestone 1000th (“and counting”) kill Thursday evening prior to the Bulldogs’ match against North Clay.

If you haven’t had the luxury of seeing one - picture a freight train coming for your face. There’s a distinct thundercrack when she’s hit the ball solid for a kill. It is unmistakable and undeniable.

And as for the game itself? 👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻:

WWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW.
