Matt Stirn Photography Science, Conservation, and Travel Photography I am an archaeologist and photographer based out of Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Thanks for visiting!

The majority of my work focuses on the lifestyle, travel, and natural settings encountered in archaeological and scientific expedition research. I have worked as the Photographer in Residence at the British School in Athens (Greece) and as senior photographer for archaeological projects on four continents. While I enjoy shooting the discovery associated with archaeology, I am currently interested

in exploring peripheral aspects of scientific exploration including its impacts on indigenous communities. In addition to covering others' work, I currently direct three high-elevation archaeological projects in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem. While my specialties focus on archaeological photography, travel, outdoor, and adventure, I am always excited to pursue new projects and opportunities. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or inquiries. All of the photographs on this page and more are available as fine art prints through Etsy. Baby coyote siblings watch us with curiosity through the sagebrush. We spent some quality time with the six pups and the parents who watched calmly as the gang rolled and played.

Throwback to last February in Sumatra. After a hike in the jungle it started to downpour and we ended up in a tiny coffee house by a lake surrounded by dense rainforest. We had coffee that was grown just behind the kitchen. This girl helped her mom with the prep.

This will be another year of exciting travels and assignments (starting in two weeks with a conservation project in Panama) so if you are interested in virtually tagging along, sign up for the newsletter! I can't guarantee how often I'll send them out, but I can promise pretty pictures of strange food, flat tires, confused locals, and the occasional nice sunset.

One of my favorite images from this spring in Greece. Every evening this elderly man from Pylos would sit at a cafe and drink coffee with his friends. As sunset began he would walk to the end of the pier and fish quietly while the evening arrived. I spent one night camped on my hotel balcony waiting for him to start his nightly routine. Just like clockwork he arrived when the sky turned orange and patiently fished, standing completely still for my 60 sec exposure. He fished until the sky turned dark and returned to his friends for an ouzo before bed.

A black bear crossing the Snake River. I was hunkered down for about an hour watching the mist rise and waiting for something to fly, waddle, or scoot by. Finally I noticed movement and was thrilled to watch a large bear paddle across the rapids.
