I got a similar view of the B-2 when I worked on the 102nd floor of tower 2 and it flew below us during fleet week. It took me many years to get a window office, but that day made the wait worth it.🇺🇸

The primary purpose of the New Jersey Aviation Hall of Fame Museum's Open Cockpit events provides a hands-on, engaging experience for visitors to get inside and operate historic and iconic aircraft, making the state's rich aviation and space heritage more accessible and inspiring visitors to learn about aviation. These events allow people to sit in various cockpits and explore aircraft, fostering a deeper connection to aviation history and inspiring future generations.

Key purposes and aspects of these events…

• Hands-on Experience: The events offer the unique opportunity to sit in the cockpits of real, historically significant aircraft, such as the Lockheed Bushmaster, Bell 47 helicopter (famous from the Korean War), and a U.S. Coast Guard Rescue Helicopter.
• Education and Inspiration: By allowing visitors to physically interact with these machines, the events serve as powerful educational tools, bringing the stories of flight and the people who pioneered them to life.
• Accessibility: Open Cockpit events make the museum's collection more accessible, allowing people to explore the interior of the aircraft in a way that is not normally possible.
• Preservation of Heritage: The events contribute to the museum's broader mission of preserving and celebrating New Jersey's aviation and space heritage.
• Interactive Fun: Visitors can also explore other areas, such as the cabin of the Martin 202A Airliner or the official Airport Rescue Firefighter Truck, making for a fun and memorable day out for families.
• Engagement with New Audiences: The interactive nature of the events is particularly popular with younger visitors, fostering a love for aviation and inspiring potential future pilots and engineers.

✈️ ACAS II: The Last Line of Defense Against Midair Collisions

When radar coverage fails and human eyes can't see, ACAS II (Airborne Collision Avoidance System II) becomes every pilot's electronic guardian angel - silently monitoring nearby traffic and issuing life-saving commands.

🔹 What Makes ACAS II Special?
• ICAO-mandated on all passenger jets >30 seats or >15,000 kg
• Fully autonomous - doesn't rely on ground systems
• Uses transponder signals to create 3D traffic picture
• Issues Resolution Advisories (RAs) with vertical escape commands

🔹 How It Works (Step-by-Step)
1. Interrogates nearby aircraft transponders (Mode S)
2. Calculates closure rate, altitude difference, and trajectory
3. First issues Traffic Advisory (TA): "Traffic, traffic!"
4. If risk continues, commands Resolution Advisory (RA): "DESCEND, DESCEND NOW!"
5. Provides continuous updates until threat clears

🔹 Critical Features
• 25-second warning time for evasive action
• Coordinated RAs when both aircraft have ACAS II
• "Adjust Vertical Speed" soft advisories for less urgent threats
• Clear visual/auditory alerts (red escape commands vs. yellow cautions)

📊 Poll: What's Your Experience With ACAS II?
A) Heard RAs in training sims only
B) Experienced real RA in flight
C) Had false alarms
D) Trust it completely as backup

⭕️ Did You Know?
ACAS II averted 63 near-midair collisions in European airspace (2015-2019) alone? Its algorithms predict conflicts 40 seconds before impact!

💬 Open-Ended Question:
How should pilots balance ATC instructions with RA commands during emergencies?

✨ Fun Fact:
Modern ACAS II systems can "negotiate" via datalink when two equipped aircraft conflict - coordinating one to climb while the other descends automatically!

🔧 Behind The Scenes
• Takes 300+ inputs per second from onboard systems
• Must be tested against 10,000+ conflict scenarios
• Latest version (7.1) reduces nuisance alerts
• Maintenance checks verify antenna diversity and processor integrity

Pilots: Share your most intense RA experience! Tech fans: Would you trust fully automated collision avoidance? Let's discuss! 🛡️✈️
