Nothing gold can stay…

A lovely sight to see! Melcher Covered Bridge in Parke County has reopened. Restoration took a long 3 years due to an abutment failure. Most structural timbers were reused and the bridge got a new metal roof, siding and 1/2 the floor replaced.

Cox Ford Covered Bridge

Built by master bridgewright J. A. Britton in 1913, the Cox Ford Covered Bridge spans Sugar Creek at the western edge of Turkey Run State Park. It replaced an iron bridge lost in the 1913 flood, using timbers salvaged from the old Armiesburg Bridge (Built in 1907). Constructed with the Burr arch truss design, it remains a proud symbol of Parke County’s craftsmanship and enduring covered bridge heritage.

Catlin Covered Bridge

Built in 1907 by Clark McDaniel, the Catlin Covered Bridge once carried traffic over Sunderland Creek near the town of Catlin in Parke County, Indiana. Constructed in the Burr Arch Truss style, the 60-foot span showcased the craftsmanship typical of early 20th-century rural bridge builders. It served local residents for decades until bypassed and later relocated to the Rockville Golf Course entrance in 1961 to preserve its historic character.

Harry Evans Covered Bridge
Parke County, Indiana

Built in 1908 by J.A. Britton, this Burr Arch Truss bridge spans Rock Run northwest of Coxville. It was named for Harry Evans, the landowner at the time. Once serving local farmers and coal miners, the bridge remains a testament to early 20th-century craftsmanship. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978, it continues to represent Parke County’s rich covered bridge heritage.
