It's been a wild ride out here this tour. These last few days, even more so. I am so proud of our team for all the hard work navigating this ever evolving situation, and for having transparent communication about a lot of difficult decisions, and ultimately for making absolutely the right call on them.
Prior to going out this leg, I had a lot of strong feelings about how the US was handling testing for covid and the eventual impact it might cause. Not that it didn't cross my mind pulling out of this run, but it's funny how you could reframe things when it starts to affect you directly, and the things you love, and those things that affect your livelihood. The last few days have had a lot more reflection on that.
Our music scene is near and dear to me for so many reasons, and it's really tough to think about a period without it, and the impact that will be felt by so many in it that I care about. What's worse is continuing on, knowing what we know, and creating that much more of an impact throughout our bigger circles.
While I've been super impressed at how well venues have quickly adopted new protocol, and how thoughtful our industry has been trying to do the right thing... the reality is everyone still has some hard work to do making choices to limit further spread of this. As much as I love it, and so many rely on it.. crowded shows and fests just aren't a good idea right now. We play a big part on the impact that will be felt weeks from now. Much love and wisdom to everyone out there working through their own difficult decisions in our scene.
There's lots of ways to help those impacted in our music family, and a lot of ways to get your music fix, albeit with less company. Try and support merch and streaming platforms now more than ever. Check in and have some real talk with those that might be harder hit from this. Most importantly remain diligent on what you can do to help limit spread. Sh*t's going to get weird(er) out there. Be prepared, but not panicked, and stay positive and kind. We got this.
