I never intended to bring this to social media.
I’m a very private person, and most of the time, I’d rather let things go, move on, and protect my peace. But when someone starts spreading a version of events that is completely different from what actually happened, and it begins affecting my business and costing me clients I will not stay silent due to this not being the first time I have had a situation like this and another reason contracts and agreements are very important to read over.
So, for the sake of clearing my name, here are the facts.
Back in August, a new client reached out wanting to book a couple’s session. From the very beginning of the booking conversation, my pricing and packages were provided. She even asked if she could pay for the session after it took place rather than beforehand. I explained that unfortunately, that was not an option because I have set packages and payment requirements for my business.
She understood, and we continued with the booking process.
Two days later, she reached out saying she needed to cancel due to unexpected circumstances. I completely understood. Things happen, and I have never been the type of photographer to make someone feel bad for something unexpected coming up.
The problem came when she requested her deposit back.
My deposit is non-refundable. This is clearly stated on my website, in my booking policies, and in the information sent directly to clients before booking. These policies are not hidden, and clients acknowledge them when booking.
When I explained that I could not refund the deposit, I was accused of “just taking money.”
Even then, I still tried to work with her.
I offered to reschedule her and her family for a date that worked for everyone. When I didn’t receive a response, I offered to keep the deposit as credit toward a future session.
So to be very clear:
I did not steal anyone’s money.
I did not refuse to provide a service.
I did not refuse to reschedule.
And I did not simply take someone’s money and disappear.
I followed the policies that were agreed to when the session was booked, while still offering additional options to try to make the situation work.
I eventually became aware that this private situation was being discussed with other people, including someone in the photography community. With claims that I had kept her money and would not allow her to have another session.
That is where I have to draw the line.
You are absolutely allowed to be unhappy with a policy. You are allowed to decide you don’t want to book with me again. You are allowed to feel however you feel about a situation.
What is not okay is taking a private situation, changing the story, telling people I stole from you, and allowing those statements to affect my reputation and livelihood.
I have the messages.
I have the booking information.
I have the policies.
And I have the offers I made to resolve the situation.
I don’t need to argue with anyone about what happened because the conversation speaks for itself. 😉
I have spent the last three years building Izzy B Imaging from the ground up. For the past year, this business has been my primary source of income. I have poured countless hours, money, creativity, time, and love into building something that I am incredibly proud of.
I have worked hard for my reputation, and I will not sit back quietly while someone attempts to damage it with information that is simply not true.
This isn’t me trying to start drama.
This isn’t me trying to attack anyone.
This is me finally saying enough is enough.
I have always tried to give people the benefit of the doubt, be understanding when life happens, and work with my clients whenever I reasonably can.
But being kind does not mean I will allow someone to walk all over me.
And being private does not mean I have to stay quiet when my business and livelihood are being affected.
I will continue to stand behind my policies, my business, and the way I treat my clients.
I’m not posting this to start drama, argue, or tear anyone else down. I’m posting because when something begins affecting my livelihood and reputation, I believe I have the right to respectfully clarify the truth.
I will continue to treat my clients with understanding, respect, and kindness, just as I always have. 🤎
