From note written to myself right before this wedding with Ryan + Abbie:
“Today, as I was just over an hour away from my out of town wedding, I got the news that my grandpa was rapidly declining. I had a brief moment of sadness and a thought of “how will I make it through this day” but then I paused and thought about grandpa, the guy who always had a camera with him and the one who inspired me to start photography.
How many bad days did he have but still showed up to document what mattered to him most? His family, his. friends, nature. What a gift and shift in perspective walking in to document a wedding day.
Now I get to go in with the lens and inner knowing of “these people + moments are fleeting, What are the things that really matter?”
I get to reflect on the thoughts + memories I am trying to relive in my head about my grandpa and freeze similar moments for my couple.
What a gift it is to be reminded of the fragility and beauty
of life. Even more, what a gift it is to realize it before it’s too late. “
P.s. grandpa is still here and fighting 45+ days later. Just his latest in a long life of tricks on us.
