What?! An actual feed post–from me?! It must be the New Year or something!😜
Part 1 of 2
What started as a month off of social media strategizing, hashtag researching, and curating weeks of content to ensure my feed was a whole ass vibe. Turned into 7 mos without a single post on our feed–whoops!
At least I still continued my trend of posting sporadically on stories when the mood struck! I love how quick, in the moment, and real it feels posting quick updates and bts of our elopements, weddings, and adventures so that’s easy for me to keep up with.
What I learned during my sabbatical from posting curated social media content: I learned you can still run a business without leaning on socials. While the content on our feed has a date of when it was posted, couples finding us online that then pop over to our Insta feed are still resonating with the “old” content posted. It’s been easy for me in the past to over analyze the importance of pumping out unique and compelling content every single week. The hustle culture online is so real. For years I believed I had to show up week-after-week, posting something wildly compelling that got me tons of likes, or I was somehow failing. Tying my work and my worth into hearts on a post. An endless loop of trying to feed the algorithm. It was honestly very liberating to focus my time and energy elsewhere to my couples, in my business, and in my life.
Taking an unexpected social break was one of the best decisions I made for myself in 2024. I gained a new perspective that allowed me the space to breathe in my business a little. I often reflect on all the hours I poured into just curating how the feed would look, using an app to organize my grid weeks out. Then the hours researching the most ideal hashtags, and then finally getting to actually write out the content part of the post–it’s all a very time consuming process tbh. And while it was definitely time to change my relationship with social media in general, I didn’t expect it to go on this long, at one point I made a promise to myself that I’d get back on here after I delivered my last gallery of the year and in a way that felt good to me.
And while I’m doing this post a little ahead of that, since our last wedding of the year we just photographed on Tuesday, I finally feel like it’s a good time to open this all back up. But this time, I’m hoping to do it with more intention and less pressure to stick to a specific schedule or have a vibey grid.
Stay tuned for part 2, I’m long winded so this will be broken out into 2 posts!
Also, enjoy 10 of our 19 weddings and elopements we had the honor of documenting this year- the rest will be in part 2!
