Hey Midwest Couples!

Want to get married in a stunning location without the travel?!

Well, I’m pumped to tell ya there are so many scenic and beautiful locations within a 1 to 2 hour drive of the Twin Cities!

Maybe you’re looking for a forested location or something similar to the North Shore of Minnesota, but you’re not up for the drive or perhaps guests can’t make that kinda drive up. There’s tons of State Parks and public lands in both Wisconsin and Minnesota with access to dense forests, epic waterfalls, cliff views, rocky terrain, beaches, and fields.

Imagine eloping or having an intimate wedding in nature with the convenience of the cities nearby! It’s basically the best of both worlds, you get the scenic nature views and adventure with the ability to have dinner at a nice restaurant after, or even sleep in your own bed that night!

For real tho, would you have guessed these kinda views were less than 2hrs from the Twin Cities?!

An ode to 2016

I’ve been seeing a lot of these 2016 posts going around and decided to make one as well. It still blows my mind that it was 10 years ago now… like how has it been so long?! Wild.

Anyway 2016 was a very pivotal year for me personally and professionally. Early in the year I had finally gotten out of a very volatile relationship, not sure what would come next for me, and when I say I couldn’t have dreamt up a better year, I mean it.

So many things happened that year that I either had come to peace with would never happen, or had decided wasn’t for me. 2016 was the year I shed those limiting beliefs and past narratives.

To some it may sound silly, but seeing my absolute favorite band live in concert (Metallica) was a HUGE life dream that I had had since I was a child. (And yes, I did grow up listening to them as far back as I can remember, lol)! Along with going to Disney World for the first time, my inner child was beyond stoked for that whole experience!

Got to snorkel for the first time in a prehistoric cave and faced a huge fear that I didn’t know I had until I was hyperventilating into my snorkel mask, lol!

Went on a cross-country road trip with friends out to Colorado for the first time!

Solo traveled out of the country for the first time to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic for a destination wedding there! Funny story is that one of the guests at the wedding happened to be an old classmate of mine from High School who I hadn’t seen in YEARS! Wild how life is sometimes! Went on a boat cruise in the Caribbean, went ziplining in the jungle, toured a cigar factory, spent 5 days exploring there!

Professionally I had the honor of photographing and being a part of so many couples’ love stories! I am always in awe at just how incredible my couples are and have been through the years, seriously love you all sm!

Before I get into the 2nd part of my 2024 Year in Review I wanna officially announce that I will be doing a full month of February Social Media break. I will be deleting all the apps off my phone, but still checking in on dm’s from my computer during work hours on a limited basis. The intention is to take back more of my time and put it into intentionally living. I tend to consume too much and loose literal hours on reels and just feeling like it’s time to do a reset!

Anyway, here’s part 2 of 2

My 2025 social media goal is to provide resources, inspo, insights, encouragement, and guidance to couples getting married in an untraditional way. Whether it’s for couples eloping just the two of them in a National Park, or intimate weddings on the North Shore in MN, or even the couples wanting to do a small wedding in a State Park, but don’t know where to start. But this time, every post will be made with couples needs in mind vs a faceless algorithms! So here’s to making social media a place to build and nurture community and helping couples plan wedding days that feel like them and that they will want to relive over-and-over again!

It wouldn’t be a proper 2025 New Year’s post without some fun stats from our years weddings, elopements, and adventures so here’s some fun facts about my year in review:

-Total photos taken: 114,653
-Total image delivered: 20,363
-Total miles driven: 17,570 with our biggest month being September with 3,064 miles driven
-Total miles flown: 1,026

-I bought my first house (2-23-24 was my closing date)!

-Rode in an Amtrak sleeper car for the first time from Montana to Minnesota) for those that don’t know I LOVE trains (even worked as a photographer on a guest train for a few years back in my early 20’s) so this was one hell of an adventure for me!

-Went to my first Twin Cities Con and met Hayden Christensen.

-Went to see my favorite band of all time Metallica play their 2-night concert at US Bank Stadium with my cousin Maddy from Alaska! (We both even got one of the guitar picks they toss out at the end of the night!)

-Paddle boarded for the first time on Lake McDonald in MT!

Here’s to an amazing 2025!!

What?! An actual feed post–from me?! It must be the New Year or something!😜

Part 1 of 2

What started as a month off of social media strategizing, hashtag researching, and curating weeks of content to ensure my feed was a whole ass vibe. Turned into 7 mos without a single post on our feed–whoops!

At least I still continued my trend of posting sporadically on stories when the mood struck! I love how quick, in the moment, and real it feels posting quick updates and bts of our elopements, weddings, and adventures so that’s easy for me to keep up with.

What I learned during my sabbatical from posting curated social media content: I learned you can still run a business without leaning on socials. While the content on our feed has a date of when it was posted, couples finding us online that then pop over to our Insta feed are still resonating with the “old” content posted. It’s been easy for me in the past to over analyze the importance of pumping out unique and compelling content every single week. The hustle culture online is so real. For years I believed I had to show up week-after-week, posting something wildly compelling that got me tons of likes, or I was somehow failing. Tying my work and my worth into hearts on a post. An endless loop of trying to feed the algorithm. It was honestly very liberating to focus my time and energy elsewhere to my couples, in my business, and in my life.

Taking an unexpected social break was one of the best decisions I made for myself in 2024. I gained a new perspective that allowed me the space to breathe in my business a little. I often reflect on all the hours I poured into just curating how the feed would look, using an app to organize my grid weeks out. Then the hours researching the most ideal hashtags, and then finally getting to actually write out the content part of the post–it’s all a very time consuming process tbh. And while it was definitely time to change my relationship with social media in general, I didn’t expect it to go on this long, at one point I made a promise to myself that I’d get back on here after I delivered my last gallery of the year and in a way that felt good to me.

And while I’m doing this post a little ahead of that, since our last wedding of the year we just photographed on Tuesday, I finally feel like it’s a good time to open this all back up. But this time, I’m hoping to do it with more intention and less pressure to stick to a specific schedule or have a vibey grid.

Stay tuned for part 2, I’m long winded so this will be broken out into 2 posts!

Also, enjoy 10 of our 19 weddings and elopements we had the honor of documenting this year- the rest will be in part 2!
