Growing up in South Africa, with its spectacular scenery, my expectations for a beach getaway are quite high. I was surprised to see Galveston is so pretty! And then even more surprised, on Saturday morning - to watch the beach fill up with trucks as far as the eye could see, right up at the water line. Making sure my kid is safe in the waves while simultaneously checking that she doesn’t get run over by a vehicle is a new experience. People’s idea of freedom is wild. The little beach crabs say eff you and your F150!

Can you imagine Cape Town? Noordhoek with bakkies packed side by side all the way to Long Beach?

(We still had a great time tho)
