In Loving Memory of Sara Lassiter
Two weeks ago everything changed.
It is incredibly difficult to find the words to say goodbye to someone who should still be here making us laugh, creating beautiful photographs, and doing what she loved.
We lost an amazing friend, photographer, and truly beautiful soul.
Sara was an incredibly talented and highly educated newborn photographer who took her craft seriously. She had a gift that went far beyond simply taking beautiful photographs. She understood the responsibility of working with the tiniest, most precious little lives entrusted to her, and she poured so much knowledge, skill, patience, and love into what she did.
But as talented as Sara was behind the camera, who she was as a person is what so many of us will miss the most. She was thoughtful, kind, loving, funny, generous, talented and so friendly.
This photograph was taken at the last wedding Sara and I worked together in May, and I keep coming back to it because it captures a memory of her that I never want to forget.
We were setting up a door shot before the ceremony so the bride and groom could talk and pray together without seeing one another. Sara was helping guide the bride’s hand around the door so she could reach her groom on the other side. For just a second, the bride thought she had found and was holding her groom’s hand…
She wasn’t.
She was holding Sara’s. 😂
And there was Sara, throwing her head back laughing when the bride realized what had happened.
It was such a small, silly moment in the middle of a wedding day. At the time, we laughed and moved on to the next photograph, never imagining how precious that little moment would become.
Today, I am so thankful I captured it.
That is how I want to remember Sara. Not only through the beautiful photographs she created, but through the laughter, the stories, the behind-the-scenes moments, and all those little memories that made her Sara.
I hope those of us who knew and loved her will continue sharing those stories. I hope we say her name. I hope we laugh when we remember the funny things she did. And I hope, in doing so, we keep a little piece of her spirit alive.
Sara, you were loved. You were talented. You mattered. And you will be greatly missed by so very many. I am incredibly grateful that one of my last memories of working beside you is filled with laughter. 🤍
