Echoes of Earth

Curled like petals fallen from time,
four bodies fold against the womb of stone —
bare as silence, soft as breath forgotten.
Their skin, dust-kissed and flame-lit,
melts into the sandstone’s spiral song:
a hymn carved by wind and waiting.

They are not women.
They are not figures.
They are the earth remembering itself —
a slow exhale,
a tender folding inward,
the stillness before creation.

Taos, NM — This June and July, the Taos Center for the Arts (TCA) presents OUT TAOS: LGBTQIA+ Artists and Artistry of the High Desert, a landmark exhibition celebrating the creative force of q***r artists living and working in Taos County. Curated by local artist and community arts organizer J. Matthew Thomas, the exhibition highlights over 25 artists through a dynamic mix of painting, sculpture, fiber, photography, installation, and mixed media.
For generations, the high desert of Northern New Mexico has nurtured creative souls seeking space to live, express, and belong. OUT TAOS honors this legacy by showcasing artists whose work explores identity, place, resilience, and community. More than a traditional gallery show, this exhibition uplifts LGBTQIA+ voices that have historically been underrepresented in the cultural narratives of the Southwest. Continued in comments…
