Valentine’s Day is more than just a day of love to me; it’s the mark in history where the fight for love began. If you don’t know the origin of Valentine’s day, I’ll give you a quick synopsis. Emperor Clauidius II of Rome banned marriage because he thought unmarried men made better soldiers. Valentine believe it was unfair and went against the system, performing marriages in secrecy to eventually be caught and killed. Here is the romantic yet tragic part — he fell in love with his jailer’s daughter and wrote the first ever valentine to her. He died on February 14.

A martyr who loved love and could not be with his own yet still married all he could in his time to keep spreading love. And that’s why Valentine’s Day is more than just a commercial holiday with roses and chocolates to me. It’s so much deeper than that.

As Valentine did in his day and witnessing all the love, I too have been blessed to capture all the love throughout the years. I will forever fight for love because it’s one of things we all need in this life.
