Have trouble setting boundaries with yourself? (Save for later.)

Yep, it’s a real thing & if you’re working from home, it’s an important thing.

I was thinking about how far I’ve come in my entrepreneurship journey (and my work from home journey specifically), and dang have I learned a lot.

If you’re struggling to be productive or unsure how to create a healthier work schedule… Here are 3 tricks that have helped me & will change your life (they definitely have changed mine)!

1. Turn your phone on airplane mode while working. The average person reaches for their phone 96 times per day. As creatives, we might reach for it even more! Think about how much time we waste each day by mindlessly scrolling, checking random apps, and doing completely irrelevant things. Turning my phone on airplane mode while I’m working has allowed me to stay on task SO much better. No notifications. No access to social media. It’s basically a productivity kickstart. If you need your phone to be available to calls, you can put your phone on Do Not Disturb for 1 hour & set away from your desk. Also, the new iPhone update Focus allows you to set specific numbers to allow them to go through on Do Not Disturb!!!

2. Have designated work hours. You aren’t meant to work constantly. You’re a human. You deserve to live a life beyond the biz. You will work more efficiently if you have time off. Period. Don’t work till it’s time to go to bed. Set hours & get to it during those designated times.

3. Structure your day for work AND breaks. This bounces off our last point just a bit! You work better when you're not always working. In addition to that, your brain needs breaks! We are good at creating our to-do lists, but not so great at having self-care practices in those lists. Have your agenda ready for the day (workwise), but don’t forget to schedule in things that’ll rejuvenate you throughout. Those are equally as important as the work tasks.

HAPPY HUMP DAY!

My main tip for practicing posing! Save for later.

If you struggle with feeling confident in front of the camera, I’m going to let you in on a little-known photographer’s secret, which just happens to be my #1 tip for practicing poses that you’ll love!

When my clients ask me how they can prepare for their shoot, I give them this simple tip:

1. Find a full-length mirror.
2. Pose yourself with your eyes closed.
3. Open your eyes and adjust your body in a way that you feel flatters you the most.
4. Do this again.
5. Continue to practice your poses until you can confidently pose yourself with your eyes closed!

You won’t be able to see yourself when you’re the one in front of the camera, so practicing what angles look and feel the best for you at home will make you feel much more confident on the day of the photoshoot.

If you’re still feeling stressed, don’t sweat it at all! As a photographer, it’s my job to direct you, to be sure I’m getting genuine emotions, and to make sure you’ll love the way you look in the pictures.
