03-JUL-22 - Behavior - 07/03/22 16:41 Upon approaching the vehicle staff member could hear Bandit audibly growling. Staff member began to talk to Bandit in the truck, Bandit continued to growl and press his muzzle against the door. Staff member attempted to use phrases such as "walk" and "outside" to see if Bandits behavior would shift but Bandit continued to show defensive behaviors. These behaviors include growling, whale eyes, using muzzle to punch kennel door, ears pinned back and snarling. Staff member used a control pole to safely remove Bandit from the vehicle. Once outside of the vehicle, Bandit walked on the control pole with low body posture and a tucked tail. Bandit was able to receive intakes in vet services without observing any lunging on the pole or hearing any audible growling. Once staff member walked Bandit outside on the control pole, his body posture loosened, and he walked with a high tail and his head high. Bandit stopped walking when passing dogs, but staff member was able to encourage him to walk. Bandit was able to be placed back in the kennel without issue. Staff did not observe any defensive behaviors once the door was closed.
Behavior - 07/08/22 13:20 Wellness team was asked to help move Bandit from his kennel as he attacked and tore off the divider door of his kennel. Staff tried prior to asking wellness but was unsuccessful. (See note) AA walked up to the kennel at the outside and Bandit was laying down on the inside of the kennel. His bed was flipped over and he was laying down. AA stepped into the kennel to call out Bandit. Bandit was growling and barking at AA but did not stand up. AA went to the inside kennel to see if Bandit would get up and come to the door. Bandit did get up and sniffed AA's legs near door and started barking. AA noticed his food bowl was still in kennel and food was all over the floor. AA took the lock off the door to see Bandit's reaction, Bandit backed away and stood near the divider opening. AA open the gate and placed one foot in the kennel, no reaction from Bandit. AA entered the kennel and stood sideways to lessen the body pressure. As AA closed the gate Bandit charged and grabbed AA by the top of his right shoe. Bandit pulled and shook slightly as AA was trying to open the gate again. Bandit released as AA was using some verbal commands. AA stepped out of the kennel without injuries nor damaged to the shoe. AA decided to use a control pole to move Bandit to allow repairs on his kennel. Bandit allowed the pole to go over his head and as soon as he sensed pressure on his neck he started to bite the pole. AA repositioned himself to allow more space at the door for Bandit to exit the kennel. Once out Bandit walked ahead of AA and into his new kennel. Once in the kennel Bandit started to gator roll. Bandit also used his front legs to stand on the pole and continued to bite the pole. AA tried release the wire on the pole but Bandit kept the pressure on the wire by standing on it. AA was able to step in and lift Bandit's hind legs over the poll and release the pressure. AA removed the control pole and observed Bandit was bleeding from his mouth/lip. AA notified vet services on the incident.
