Oooo big win! My wet plate journey has been agonizingly slow. I typically only make 1-3 a week (they take about 20 mins each to fully create and in general it doesn’t pay the bills (yet)).
The last dozen have been way more misses than hits but today was good! The problem has mostly been an under exposure issue (wet plates have an iso rating of some where south of…. 1. Yes 1….) kind of hard to wrap my head around when my light meter doesn’t go below 3. But I finally dialed in a some good strobe coverage for the studio and had a good attempt with this one outside.
The studio shots are still pretty rough (mostly because of bad chemical poor) but at least theirs exposure details. This outside of my studio shots was at 11:30am in stark sun light with F8 at 8 seconds long…..
Still a long way to go but it’s so rewarding when it all starts to come together.
Oh this is on glass too which I find just amazingly intriguing!

Whelp, Glass for the win.
I’ve had some issues with wetplate for the last month. Mostly appears to have been an exposure issue. But after redoing all my chemicals and being explicitly clean with cross contamination I got to one last plate. And it went badddddd (see second picture but be warned it’s nightmare material).
Taking a three hour break though I tried again on glass (and some simple light adjustments) and bam! Back to making progress!
I’ll make a proper backdrop to see the results better soon but I might have to go exclusive glass for a while!
