Tomorrow Night in Reno — The Sacred

I’ll be at the Patagonia store sharing photographs, stories, and video from the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge—one of the most remarkable landscapes on Earth and home to some of the most remarkable people I’ve ever encountered. I’ll talk about the wildlife, the Gwich’in people, and why protecting this place matters.

Free show. All ages welcome.

Happy hour from 6–7 PM
Slideshow from 7–8 PM

Free beer thanks to Revision Brewing Company, plus some great giveaway items.

Pro tip: make a night of it and grab dinner at DOPO Pizza next door before or after the show.

Hope to see you there.

Tonight at 7 PM!
The last Winter Speaker Series show of the season is here. Join us tonight, February 28, for Dave Nettle’s “Patagonia – A Climber’s Journey.”
📍 In-person: Palisades Tahoe Olympic Village Event Center
💻 Live stream: YouTube
🎟️ Giveaway tickets & bar proceeds benefit TAMBA
I’m honored to be a Speaker Series sponsor and a Donor Party member, where combined with proceeds from raffle and drink sales, we’ve raised about $100k per show for our local nonprofit beneficiaries. It’s been incredibly meaningful to support such impactful work in our community and be a part of it alongside so many other amazing community members.
Dave is a world-class climber, adventurer, and storyteller—not to mention a great friend, mentor, and the guy who sold me my first trad rack 20 years ago. With accolades that include climbing just about everywhere and completing many first ascents, his storytelling is humorous, insightful, and wildly inspiring—like swapping tales with an old friend.
The last photo, taken in 2010, features (from left to right): Dave Nettle, Hansi Stanteiner ( ) , Glen Poulsen ( AKA Snow Leopard), me, Jim Zellers ( .us ) , and the late Kip Garre—all of whom have influenced me deeply. Some of that inspiration began at the early renditions of the Speaker Series over 20 years ago, where I was lucky enough to learn from them not only as snow sliders and climbers, but as brothers, mentors, and devoted members of the Church of Seven Day Recreationists.
I’ll be there shooting photos, so come say hi, grab a photo, buy a drink and raffle tickets and enjoy the evening. See you at 7 PM.

Today, on International Polar Bear Day, we celebrate these incredible Arctic icons and reflect on the challenges they face in a rapidly changing world.

Captured near the Inupiat village of Kaktovik, Alaska, in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, these moments offer a glimpse into the lives of polar bears in one of the last truly wild places on Earth. This refuge is not just their home—it’s a vital ecosystem that connects land, sea, and people who have lived alongside these animals for generations.

As climate change melts the sea ice they depend on, polar bears are spending more time on land, searching for food in new and uncertain ways. This shift leads to more frequent interactions with humans, increasing the potential for conflict. The future of these bears—and the communities that share their home—depends on how we choose to protect the Arctic.

Let’s stand together to safeguard this critical habitat and ensure a future where both people and polar bears can thrive.

Huge congrats to Zeb Schreiber ( ) for landing his first cover on Tahoe Magazine! This shot, taken at near his home in Tahoma, CA, marks a special milestone of my own—it’s my first cover featuring Tahoe’s rising ski and snowboard stars.
Zeb is part of an insanely talented group of young athletes here in Tahoe—each one incredible on and off the snow. Zeb’s character and work ethic are far beyond his years and more impressive than his ski talents.
A big thanks to the team for highlighting the next generation of talent in our community. Be sure to grab your copy—available now online and at local shops!
Excited to see where Zeb and his crew take their passion, both on snow and in life. Big things ahead for these rising stars.
