I love when I get to attend a birth with her. She’s always smiling and somehow doing a million things at once while making it look completely effortless. This past summer, some unexpected things with my middle son really opened my eyes and made me look at life a little differently. For a while, I thought I was going to have to put birth photography on pause completely. Between everything happening with my son, my husband working long hours and losing my on-call childcare until almost spring, I just couldn’t see how I could keep taking on births. My husband and I had a lot of conversations during this time and realized we want to build something together that allows us both to do what we love. For me, that means continuing to do birth photography. Birth has been such a meaningful part of my life. After losing his graphic design job after 8 years almost two years ago, my husband has spent the last couple years working long hours in a warehouse while still looking for graphic design work. This Summer gave us the push to finally start building something together. We’re in the process of making that happen now and I’m so excited to share it with everyone soon. I’ll be taking a small break from births after October for a few months but I’ll be back early next year with more support, a new business venture with my husband and hopefully a little more balance for our family. This Summer wasn’t what we expected but it gave us a lot of clarity. ✨❤️✨

I may show up to your birth as your photographer but I still bring my doula heart with me. Before I became a birth photographer I was a doula. When I walk into your birth I’m not just thinking about my camera. I’m paying attention and I am reading the room. I’m aware of what’s happening around me and notice the little things. I also know when to step back. I want to be present without taking over. I’ll make my presence known when it feels right but I also know how to quietly move around a room and stay out of the way when that’s what the moment needs. When you hire a birth photographer I truly believe it shouldn’t just be about finding someone who can take photos. I think they should have a heart for birth too. A heart that understands birth, the room and knows when to step in and when to disappear into the background. That doula heart is still very much a part of how I show up.
