Our family has been going through something really scary and unexpected with one of our boys. We’ve had multiple hospital visits, a hospital stay and a lot of unanswered questions.

He’s home now and thankfully seems much more like himself with the help of medication. But we are honestly exhausted and trying to process everything while navigating appointments, getting more answers and figuring out what’s best for him.

We also just want to say thank you to everyone who has checked in, sent messages, brought us meals, dropped things off or kept us in your thoughts. It has meant SO much to us.

One thing I’ve learned as a birth photographer is that birth doesn’t wait for anyone. Most of the time I walk into a birth space with a while to settle in. I can quietly observe, adjust my camera settings and get a feel for the room.

And then there are births like this one.
Mom texted me saying she thought she might be in labor and wanted me to come. Around 25 minutes later, while I was driving, my phone rang, β€œBaby’s here!”.

Birth photography has taught me that my job isn’t just about capturing the exact moment a baby is born. It’s about telling the story that’s unfolding in front of me, no matter when I walk through the door. Birth reminds you that no amount of planning can predict how someone’s story will unfold and honestly that’s one of the things I love most about it!

Every birth is different. Every story matters..
