When I’m old, this is where my mind will go. To this stage, that Joe and Joie are in now. Back to the time when you didn’t think your heart could expand anymore, yet somehow it does and you witness your first born’s heart do the same. Being in the blissful newborn bubble, but this time together, with just enough experience to be still in it. So you hold the baby while they nap, you slow down getting out the door, you read one more story, or three. You take a mental picture of their long eyelashes, the way their little hand wraps around your finger, the smell of their newness. You embrace the 2 am newborn cries followed by 2:30 am tip toes down the hallway. You welcome everything taking twice as long and sometimes being twice as hard, because you know it comes with twice as much joy.

My boys are teens now, and every season of being their Mom has been nothing short of incredible, but the one of them becoming brothers will always be my favorite.

Yeah, this is where I’ll go.

Felt honored to have been asked to be here for Meagan Elzbth 🖤’s Boots on the Ground Gala! It was an event to raise awareness for the mental health of first responders.

As a Deputy for the last ten years, I have seen first hand how quickly it can deteriorate your mental health if you aren’t careful. While the national average for the general public sits around 13 to 14 per 100,000 people, studies have shown first responders are significantly more at risk with 18 in 100,000. With law enforcement alone accounting for 58% of all first responder suicides.
