Gavin, my nephew, had been planning his engagement to his beautiful girlfriend, Mel, for quite some time. The day that he asked me to capture this special moment in their lives gave me mixed feelings. Sadness filled my heart as I remember him as the age of my son now, 3, 3 years old and now he's a spectacular young man, striving to create a life of his own, memories and moments of his own, their own.
The sadness subsided as our conversation went on and I became the protective auntie. Are you sure this is what you want, you are young, you have a whole lifetime ahead of you. His response, a confident yes and with that my feelings turned to pride. Proud of the hard work he's putting in to find himself and create a life of his own, of their own.
Excitement filled the air as we met on a glorious summer day as the proposal was a surprise! Gavin and I had planned it out a few weeks in advance and it was perfect. The perfect day, perfect place, the perfect couple.
As I look through the photos I cannot help but shed tears as I see the little boy that I once knew when I look into his caring eyes and see that silly smile, but I also see a future husband to a sensitive and kind young woman and I pray for their marriage and the journey ahead of them.
Gavin and Mel, I wish the world for you! and only wonderful things in your future. The best is yet to come.
