If you like stargazing, make sure to look up tonight! We have a near-total lunar eclipse happening, and the weather is looking pretty good for it! Some may have an opportunity to see aurora as well! 🤞🏼

Here's a shot I took from the last total lunar eclipse, March 2025. Total Duration was 6 hours and 3 minutes from start to finish, with the full red totality phase lasting about 65 minutes.

The next one for our region isn't until summer 2029, it’s definitely worth checking out tonight! ✨

Migrating south in style! 🌌 Snagged this shot of a Common Nighthawk gliding over the backyard earlier. Seeing a flock of 20 of them flying in loose formation from north to south at dusk is one of my favorite late-summer signs—these long-distance travelers are officially on their way to South America for the winter!

Drake - this you?

Doubt he'll see this, maybe his team? 😆

I find it a bit strange to see a message like this on the bottom of a jetliner, but after digging a bit, the phrase is a playful nod to Drake's 2015 mixtape: If You're Reading This It's Too Late.

What are the odds of me capturing this tonight from my backyard in Sylvania, OH? ✨

Plane was headed south from DTW.

Where you headed fam? ✌🏼

Never have I ever!

I spotted not one, but two, B-2 stealth bombers flying low towards the 180th Fighter Wing from my location in Sylvania, OH yesterday (8/18/2026).
It was truly a sight to see! What caught my attention was the low rumbling noise in the distance, and then to see these two huge aircraft flying in formation, was absolutely remarkable. Come to find out their wingspan is 172 ft! Truly a modern day marvel.

The unfortunate news is, I only caught this with my pixel phone 😔 I was stunned and just soaked up the moment. Hopefully I get another chance to see this craft out in the wild, under "training" purposes only of course.

I was so lucky to capture this shot from my backyard when an airliner suddenly flew through the frame as the moon transited the sun.

Talk about a parting gift! 🦉✨

On my way out of Oak Openings after a Sunday morning walk, I got the surprise of a lifetime. I had absolutely no idea this beautiful Barred Owl was sitting there until I was practically right next to it! Talk about incredible camouflage. It definitely startled me for a second, and it just sat there completely silent, calm, and unbothered, just observing.

I managed to snap a quick photo, made my peace with this gorgeous creature, and kept on moving. Truly a magical nature moment to wrap up a weekend! 🌿💚

The "Hiccup" in the Grass

Managed to cross paths with a Henslow’s Sparrow at Irwin Prairie State Nature Preserve - another lifer!

These little guys are famous for being heard but rarely seen. If you aren't looking for that short, flat-headed profile or listening for their distinct "hiccup" call, you’ll miss them entirely as they scurry through the sedge meadows. My Peterson field guide calls their song, "a poor vocal effort." I think it's perfect lol 🙂

There is nothing quite like the unique habitat at Irwin Prairie, especially when it rewards you with a look at a species that relies so heavily on these specific grasslands.

A sleepy Eastern Whip-poor-will at Magee Marsh on May 7th. It’s always a treat to spot one of these masters of disguise out in the open (well, as open as they get!) during the day.

The intricate patterns in its feathers are just stunning when you get a chance to see them up close like this, a lifer for me!. Definitely a memorable moment from the boardwalk.
