What a surprise! Tonight, Alycia asked, "Who sent you a package from Canada?" I was so confused. I replied to her, "I didn't ordered anything from Canada." After I looked at the package, it hit me...
One year ago exactly from the date the package was sent to me, I was standing on the summit of Kīlauea volcano on the Big Island in Hawaii. I was celebrating my birthday by taking photos of an active volcano. It was an incredible once in a lifetime experience! While watching the lava bubble from the surface, I saw a mother and daughter taking a selfie with the volcano. I randomly asked if I could take a photo for them with my professional camera to capture their irreplaceable moment together. Afterwards, we hiked back to our cars as we chatted about my leadership trainings and Canada. During our conversation at some point, I mentioned to them how much I loved the Canadian candy bar called Coffee Crisp, but that it wasn't sold in the United States. We parted ways and later on I emailed them their photos. Unfortunately, we haven't communicated since...until now.
I opened the package from Canada and found a beautifully written letter thanking me for the photos saying, "The shots turned out spectacular, and have become cherished memories of our trip to Kona." I love providing vivid memories for people through high-quality photographs, and it is especially fun to do when they aren't expecting it.
I can't believe they remembered! Also in the package with the letter were two big Coffee Crisps! It was like Christmas. What a pleasant and exciting surprise! It's the little things that can mean so much. Of course, I devoured one of the Coffee Crisps right away, but I'm saving the other for later.
Thank you Anita and Amanda for your thoughtful gift on the anniversary of our meeting! My heart is as warm as lava and my belly is satisfied. Let's make this an annual tradition, haha!
