Before I Knew Your Name
Before I knew your name,
I knew you by the way
my heart began making room.
Before I felt your little kicks,
I loved you in the quiet,
in the waiting,
in every whispered prayer
I was almost afraid to believe.
Pregnancy is more than a growing belly.
It is becoming someone new
while watching a tiny someone
become everything.
It is tears over an ultrasound,
hands resting on a bump,
counting weeks like little milestones,
and wondering how someone
you’ve never held
can already hold so much of you.
There are days of sickness,
days of exhaustion,
days when your body feels unfamiliar,
but somehow,
you’ve never felt more like yourself.
And then one day,
the waiting becomes a heartbeat
you can hear outside your own.
The tiny flutter becomes a kick.
The little bump becomes a baby.
The dream becomes a nursery.
The prayer becomes a person.
And suddenly you understand…
You weren’t just growing a baby.
You were growing hope.
You were growing patience.
You were growing strength.
You were growing a love
that existed before you ever
got to look into their eyes.
So to every mama carrying a baby,
whether this pregnancy came easily
or after years of hoping,
whether you’re glowing
or simply surviving the day…
You are doing something extraordinary.
There is a little life beneath your heart
who will never know
how many times you prayed for them,
how many tears you cried,
or how many days you wondered
if you were strong enough.
But one day,
they’ll know your voice.
They’ll know your hands.
They’ll know your heartbeat.
And they’ll spend their whole life
being proof that all those little moments
were worth it. 🤍
