Had to press pause on this mural for a back surgery, then winter was upon us, and then it came the decision to close up the Moonshadow Collective studio & storefront. Now I'm feeling more strong and rested so I'm back to finish what I started. Even though this isn't Moonshadow Collective's HQ anymore, I still felt called to finish it and Downtown Sykesville Connection was on board. When I first proposed it, it was always intended to be less about Moonshadow Collective and more about providing others with a sense of belonging and optimism. And while I'm not where I was when I started, I'm exactly where I'm meant to be. If you are craving an affirmation or placemaking mural for your own space, hit me up! PS - Shout out to Hannah Harder for all the help and encouragement on this. Can't wait to finish up a few details and sign it with ya.

Right after making the decision to close the shop & studio, I went on a walk and found myself in BotaniGal. The first thing I noticed were the orchids in the new section of the shop. I told myself I'll buy myself an orchid as a treat after I close up the storefront... but then I decided to double back.

Orchids were my mom's favorite. She wore one on her wedding day. She wore one on my wedding day. Her coworkers would hand off their "dead" orchids to her and she would nurse them back to life.

I bought an orchid in the cheeriest color I could find and brought it back to Moonshadow with me. It is helping me to believe my mom is here in spirit with me everyday as I pack up this dream I had and all the hard steps that are coming with it.

And this orchid is helping me see the beauty amidst this chaos of closing and moving it all to my basement. And helping me to remember that this isn't the end of that dream, but a much needed rest and recalibration. I look forward to seeing where that might lead by the next time it blooms.
