How are you one already 😭. I know you don't understand the concept of birthdays, but I'm sorry your very first birthday was such a s**t show, this isn't how I wanted to celebrate, but we will make it up as soon as and I are feeling better. Long story short, we were rear-ended pretty hard on the freeway, my girlfriend and I went to the hospital and all of our imaging came back great, just sprains and strains. Forrest is acting completely normal, though people outside of the car is very scary. I'm very glad he was buckled into the back, if he wasn't, he probably would have ended up in the front seat with us or worse. I will make a better birthday post as soon as we can make that happen. ⁣

Forrest is learning a new trick and I'm really proud of him even if he does still keep trying to bite the hand with the treats like the psycho he is lol. I can't believe he'll be a whole year old next week! ⁣

Just a quick training pupdate. He's doing amazing, he is still definitely a puppy, but that's to be expected. This is just a portion of what he knows and I couldn't be more proud ⁣

The last month and a half have been like a fever dream. The beginning of October, Forrest goes to the hospital. Mid October I notice Whiskers is drinking excessive amounts of water and not always peeing in the litter box and is having a hard time walking due to arthritis. We take him to the vet and find out he's also losing weight fast, they take some blood work and give him his arthritis shot, we wait a week and a half and find out I was correct about him being diabetic. We discussed treatment plans and decided on insulin, go talk with a vet tech about how to do the insulin without Whiskers there. I give him his first dose of insulinin the evening a couple days later (needed to get the insulin ordered) and the next morning he's EXTREMELY lethargic and almost can't walk. My amazing girlfriend comes over to help me with him because no one else was home, we decided to call the vet who said to bring him in asap. His blood sugar was low, and he had eaten a little before (I had to almost force him, but he still did eat) and they told us to give him karo corn syrup twice a day for the weekend (this was a Thursday, we got a recheck Monday morning). It took him until Sunday to be back to normal, and on Monday, his blood sugar was extremely high (which is safer than it being low, but still obviously not ideal). The vet came in to talk to us about his game plan and tell us he's surprised that the dose was too high, as he would have thought he would be safe with a higher dose, but wanted to start low. He then decided to grab syringes and ask us how far I pulled the plunger with the insulin and realized that the vet tech that showed us how to dose the insulin was under the impression that the "20" mark on the syringe was 2 units, and it was unfortunately 20 units of insulin. When the vet realized that I had unintentionally given Whiskers 20 units of insulin, he was immediately concerned and told us Whiskers is lucky to be alive after receiving that much insulin. Thankfully Whiskers is back to normal now and has been on the correct dose of insulin for a few days now and is feeling so much better now.

As many of you may have seen/heard Forrest went to the emergency vet yesterday and was hospitalized overnight for a possible intestinal blockage. I am very happy to say he was released today around 1 and is back to himself. ⁣

Yesterday morning he slept a lot longer than normal and when we got him out of bed in the morning we noticed he had thrown up bile. My girlfriend had spent the night and stayed outside with him while I cleaned that up and he threw up quite a bit more bile. I thought it might be hunger pukes because he did sleep in quite a bit. I offered him food, but he wasn't interested in the food. I tried a few things, with little luck, but got a little in him, which he threw up shortly after. He was still interested in his toys, but nowhere near as much as normal, and he was definitely just not my monster puppy, so we took him to the vet. While waiting there, we went a little back and forth on if we had made the right decision, but after we were in a room and he threw up again, we knew we made the right choice. The X-rays showed that he did have something in his intestines, but they couldn't tell what, and it didn't have all the normal signs of a blockage, so they suggested hospitalizing him for 12-24 hours for observation and fluids. While he was hospitalized, he began improving, and the X-ray rechecks that night showed the object was moving and not creating a full blockage. At around noon today, they called to let me know he was drinking and eating without showing signs of nausea, and he was good to go home. My amazing girlfriend was able to get him as I was at work, and he was back to himself. When she brought him to work to pick me up, he ran straight to me and was very excited to say hi to everyone again. He definitely has his energy back, we are currently doing several smaller meals, but he seems to also have his appetite back. I couldn't be more happy to have my little gremlin back. Thank you to everyone who helped and checked on me, it is very appreciated.

Despite the fact that I am NOT a morning person, Forrest believes that the early bird gets the worm. We go on an hour long walk in the mornings and even if I want to be asleep, the sky is pretty enough to make up for it. ⁣

How is my tiny baby a huge 6 month old monster already?! He's a pain in the ass, but I love him so much. He recently graduated his intermediate class and we've gone on a few practice outings in pet friendly places. He definitely is a lab puppy and a mouthy, stubborn butt, though he is learning well. He just doesn't do anything if he doesn't want to lol. ⁣

Tw; pet loss⁣
Last month I unfortunately found Loki passed away in his enclosure. I don't fully know what happened, but he did have some health concerns I was actively trying to treat. I will eventually add his paw print to my tattoos, I just need money first. I thankfully have had lots of support and am very grateful for everyone who did help. I got his ashes back this week and he's with Astro now. ⁣
