As a child, I spent many solitary days exploring the pastures around my home, discovering nature at its' best. Surrounded by farm animals and native creatures of S. Texas, I was comfortable tromping through fields in my cowboy boots, hopping on my horse and taking off to nowhere. In reflecting on who "I am", I see my love for nature runs deep and I'm seeing it in a "new" way through the lens of a

camera. Developing a composition that not only pleases the eye but speaks to the heart is an expression of my love for the beauty on our earth. It is breathtaking and awe-inspiring. If you'd like to see more of my work, please visit www.hollyfischerphotography. Thank you for visiting my page.

It's been a busy spring around here and I haven't been sitting in front of my computer much, which is good for me but not so great for sharing photos! Finding some time today to share with you more photos from my visit last month to Corvallis and the William Finley Natural Wildlife Refuge. I'll be there again near the end of the month and I'm so looking forward to seeing all the birds at the refuge. I just purchased a pair of binoculaurs... does this mean I'm an official birder now? ☺️

p.s. Some of my time has been taken up by my newest passion of ceramics- I'm "all in" with my recent purchase of a kiln! I had a few hours this past weekend to explore around Corvallis and found myself at the William L. Finley Wildlife Refuge. Located in the Willamette Valley and spanning 5,325 acres, it is home to an abundance of birds and boasts being home to "thousands" of species. It was really an incredible "find" for someone like me, that could spend days here exploring the beautiful trails and different ecosystems in this land. And of course, I had my camera in hand to capture what I could.

One of the first things I saw were these zippy tree swallows, pulling off incredible acrobats together in the sky! I'm assuming I was watching courtship behavior- with them tangling up and even "kissing" in free fall! If you are familiar with these little ones, you'd know they are like little missiles screaming through the sky. Trying to photograph them was a great photographic challenge and I got lucky with a few worth sharing (shot at 3200 / sec shutter speed). I found it interesting that they would tangle in the sky and then do a free fall into the grass and then rise 2-3 seconds later and repeat their acrobats. It was super fun to watch! (They are heavily cropped so you can see them...)

Here's the last compilation of photos I have to share from the Caribbean coast of Costa Rica. Rich in plant and animal diversity, there was never a lack of curious and incredible things to photograph!
This evening, I'll be at the Artists' Gallery Sunriver for our Second Saturday and I'd love to catch up with my photography people! I'll be there between 4pm and 6pm- join us for light appetizers and refreshments and engaging conversation ;) I hope to see you there!

Here is a fire-billed aracari, snacking on some berries in the yard of our villa. They are part of the toucan family and found in the canopies of the rainforest. I often saw them in pairs, speaking to one another from across trees or sharing in the berries.

Howler monkeys and sloths! We were surrounded by both on the Caribbean coast of Costa Rica. And when I mean surrounded, I really mean it! About 30 minutes before sunrise, the howler monkeys would start to stir and howl and if you don't know what they sound like (look it up!), it can be very frightening and extremely loud! They hung out in this huge tree right behind our villa. Luckily, they only sounded the "alarm" about half the days we were there. Sloths are not easy to find, but once you know how to find them, you do. We saw countless sloths and I was able to grab a few decent photos of them. Needless to say, both the monkeys and sloths are way up high in the trees, making photography a challenge and leaving me needing a really good neck massage! Hope you enjoy the sacrifice and enjoy the photos ;)

Nearly every morning during our stay on the Caribbean coast of Costa Rica, I'd have my coffee, grab my camera and do a little photo walk around our villa, which sat in the middle of the rainforest. The variety of flora & fauna was astounding as was the beauty of so many of the plants, many of which were flowering. Here's an assortment of some of what I saw...

Beautiful hummingbirds in Costa Rica. The colorful one is the rufous-tailed hummingbird and the other is the long-billed hermit. These little guys were all around the property we were staying at and it was a fun challenge to capture them in flight.

I'm just back from the incredible country of Costa Rica. This was my fourth visit and I don't see an end to returning to this beautiful place. This time, I visited the Caribbean coast and was greeted with an abundance of wildlife, beautiful weather, gorgeous beaches, warm water and jungles teeming with a huge variety of flora and fauna. One thing most different from my previous visits was the number of sloths we saw on this coast- countless really. Previously, in three visits, I saw one sloth. So I really enjoyed looking up in the trees and learning to spot them and hoping they would be in a position I could capture them! There are 2 varieties of sloths in Costa Rica, the 2 & 3 fingered sloth. Here, resting up in the canopy is a 2-fingered sloth. Isn't he adorable? I love their little faces!

Stay tuned for more shots as I review my photos this morning!
