Just as a heads up, I'll be shutting down my online client galleries and website on October 20th. If you still have stuff on there you want to download/order prints of, now is the time. Be sure to back up your photos! If you need them in the future I should be able to get them to you somehow, but I'll probably need to charge a fee for it. No bellyachin' if you don't heed my warning.

Also, since this very well might be my last post on this account, I thought I'd post a few pictures of our family from this summer. Alara is almost 4 and started preschool this year and she absolutely loves it. Eirwen is about 1.5 years old, is very inquisitive, and beneath her cute visage is a deeply buried rage that occasionally bubbles to the surface and will someday swallow the world in darkness.

Anyhoo. I, on the other hand, totally don't regret quitting photography to go back in to software development just when AI started taking over the profession. Nope. Surely once I finally finish the app I'm working on my job search will take all of a few days...right?

In all sincerity, thank you all again for trusting in me with your memories.

A good friend of mine (Mike Bregel, or as I know him - Breegs or simply Bregel) was recently diagnosed with stage 4 stomach cancer. We were friends in high school, roommates in college, and have helped each other through life's ups and downs.

Nobody deserves to get a diagnosis like this, but Mike is the kind of person that would not only give a stranger the shirt off his back, but he'd give them his pants, shoes, and whatever cash he had in his wallet just for good measure. He's the sole breadwinner for his family.

I know that most of the people that follow my business don't know him, but I'd appreciate any help you could give. If you've ever said to yourself "I really like the photos that Aury took for us and I wish I could give him a tip," this is your chance to do that and more. Thank you.

I'm announcing my retirement from photography, effective immediately. While I've been successful and found the work rewarding, for various reasons (the posted image in particular) it's time to move on. I'll probably still do some senior portraiture, but I won't have a good idea of what form that'll take or how many clients I'll take on until spring. After nearly 10 years of doing this I should probably say something poignant, and here's the best I could come up with:

To all those who chose me to capture the incredibly important moments in your life, I cannot thank you enough. I had the opportunity to meet some incredible people, create beautiful photos, experience gratitude on a level that's rare in almost any other job, and improve myself in innumerable ways. It's been an adventure.

And to those who instead chose one of my competitors and are still inexplicably reading this - sincerely, from the bottom of my heart, I hope you forever regret your decision.
