You see a lot of golden hour, sunset light, happy seniors, and beautiful Wisconsin evenings on my page. ☀️
What you don’t always see is everything happening behind the camera to get there. 😅
This summer has brought:
🔥 Heat advisories
🌫️ Wildfire smoke
☔ Rain
⚡ Thunderstorms
🥵 Humidity
…and forecasts constantly changing.
For a senior, rescheduling isn’t just changing a date on the calendar.
It’s having outfits ready. Hair. Makeup. Planning. Anticipation. Sometimes, dealing with a little disappointment.
When they finally show up, I want them feeling excited - not hot, uncomfortable, worried about hair, or wondering if we’re getting rained on.
That’s why we photographers are watching radar. Checking forecasts. Watching wind, humidity, clouds, ground conditions, and yes… obsessing over sunset.
Then we make the call.
Sometimes we go for it.
Sometimes we reschedule.
Sometimes we make the best decision we can with the information we have, and the big guy upstairs has other plans anyway.
That’s the part you don’t see on Instagram.
You see the pretty picture. You don’t see the weather apps, the rescheduling conversations, or the photographer wondering if she made the right call.
I never want to give you the impression that everything happens perfectly and effortlessly.
Because it doesn’t.
To all of my senior parents & seniors who have had to reschedule this summer: Thank you. ❤️
I know it’s not easy. You’ve rearranged schedules, and sometimes swallowed a little disappointment right along with me.
Your trust means more than you realize.
To all the senior photographers out there sweating through the heat, watching the radar, moving sessions around, and still creating beautiful work - I see you. ❤️
Maybe that’s what I hope you remember when scrolling through perfect images online.
There is a story behind every pretty picture.
Sometimes it’s a senior who waited.
Sometimes it’s a mom who rearranged the calendar.
Sometimes it’s a photographer who checked the radar one more time and hoped she was making the right call.
Then everyone shows up on the right evening…
and it was worth the wait. ☀️
This was one of the last shots from Grace’s
session. She was blessed with a beautiful sunset, golden hour, blue hour, and the elusive perfect summer night.
