I wanted to give an update on my Avery as we have finalized what we are going to do about her scoliosis. If you saw my story a couple months back, Avery's curve has progressed 15° in 6 months. She was diagnosed with scoliosis when she was 6 and had a 32° curve. We braced for a year and then moved to a more integrative care plan that included genetic testing to see what she was deficient in and using that knowledge for supplements and also wearing a Scolismart activity suit for two hours while she was active (it uses corrective forces when she would walk or move. *I HIGHLY recommend anyone who has scoliosis look into scolismart! We still braced at night but it allowed her the freedom to be completely brace free for most of the day!). Her curve only grew 5° within those 5 years, which was great.
However, now since she has entered the rapid growth period and adolescence, it has gotten too aggressive. 15° in 6 month is crazy to me! She is now at a 52° curve (maybe more since x ray was in January) and in the range for surgical intervention. We looked into both tethering and fusion surgery. Tethering sounds amazing but we are looking for the most correction with the least likelihood of having to have another surgery. Therefore, she is scheduled for a thoracic fusion surgery in May. We would love prayers for her. She is pretty nervous but also hopeful this will help her live a more normal life without thinking about her braces on a daily basis or be self-conscious of how her back looks. Thankfully she doesn't have much pain now and we pray that will continue after surgery too. Many of you have reached out once I shared information on my stories and your experiences has made this decision a lot let scary, so thank you!
Since this is a big surgery, I'll be taking very limited number of sessions in May and possibly June. So if you want a session those months, PLEASE reach out as soon as possible!
